I am potential switcher to apple and need to do a fair amount of faxing for my work. I've been reading reviews of the apple usb modem and a lot of people seem to be having problems with it. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/canadastore.woa/6094005/wo/n2vECqhTtwXU2hjzpkgCsQXJK3N/3.0.21.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3#rev. My current windows box has an internal modem which I've been using to PC fax. If I switch, I would still like to be able to PC faxing, maybe with Pagesender or something similar.

My question is: Will any modem work with a mac, or do I have to use the apple usb modem?

Thanks

It's going to have to be a USB modem because you have no other port to connect it to. However there are a lot of modem types under System Preference > Network > Internal Modem > Modem. Any of those should work.

The reviews you linked to are a mixed bag. You might try it and return it if it doesn't work. Good luck.
