Heck yeah, all you Cali people move to Austin. The cost of living is lower than Cali, there's a lot of tech companies here already and we are growing.

And it's just as wacky-liberal as the west coast here, you'd fit right in.

Yes now all the Cali people have to do is get use to all the crazy Christian mega churches then they are good to go. Lived in both and yes texas is cheaper but its no cali by a long shot. ;)

What do you think he should be doing?

Worrying for people who are suffering from AIDS, cancer? Should he just sit down at home, crying for some ABCperson cause he is suffering from Cancer?
Should he be taking care of earthquakes and hurricanes and volcanoes?
Why should he be bothered about other people not maintaining their relationships properly?

People help out by donations and prayers but that doesn't stop their work/life/habits, etc. I think iPad 2 is more important to me than a person down the road suffering from Cancer. Doctors and his family must care about him; all I can do is pray.

Hard to understand such comments from some people.

What are you doing now btw? Why are you posting on MacRumors? Why not go on a rescue operation in Japan and help out those people out? I did voluntarily and I am on a week's leave. What's up?
Ewww.... that burns, doesn't it, LarryC?!

All make sense but the part that Apple will pay 3 to 4 times for panel. Apple is indeed on need of parts but a move like that is crazy and desperate and Apple can be called anything but that. Even more when you consider that AU will be a the "new supplier" that wont be able to deliver the quantities other vendors ship. If Apple is taking a hit with a more that extraordinary supply chain I want to see if HP, Motorola and the rest can keep the prices of their tablets since they don't have the supply chain as Apple. The only one in my opinion that is kind of save is Samsung since they produce almost everything.

I read it differently. I do not think Apple will be paying 3-4 times more than they pay for panels they currently use. I think AU will be selling the Apple panels for 3-4 more times than the cheap panels they usually manufacture. Apple will definitely pay some premium, I just do not think it will be 300-400%.

...playing Sherlock Holmes to find iPad2 is getting tiresome.

does that include the need to smoke a pipe, do a sundry of drugs, playing the violin, and having a witless chum of a sidekick? (maybe not witless - Watson got it, sometimes...)

:D

just kidding - i feel your pain. gets old.

Samsung is pushing forward on a $3.6 billion expansion of its facilities in Austin, Texas, looking to hire 300 new employees for its chip foundry
Here is the chance for all those "good Americans" we have here, whining about Chinese labor, to take a factory job. Get on it, boys!

I wonder if there is a Korean-based forum about Samsung, where they whine about jobs going to the USA?

A bit of an over reaction don't you think?

"It sucks to be me." A delay in receiving his new computer because of an earthquake and tsunami that killed tens of thousands of people, made god only knows how many people homeless and the only thing this kid can think is that it sucks to be him! I agree, it really does suck to be so self centered and selfish.

Another example of the it's all about me generation. If that is the attitude of a younger generation then we really are screwed!

I totally agree. Millions are suffering from things like cancer, aids, poverty, homelessness, lost jobs, divorce, uncontrolled pain brought on by chronic illness, depression and anguish, but it is you who are truly suffering because your iPad 2 is gonna arrive later than expected. That is just so sad and disheartening. Perhaps the red cross will discover your plight and rush to your aid.

I was waiting for the "How can you think of your electronic toy when there is suffering in the world" reply.

What do you think he should be doing? Well, to begin, how about realizing that a delay in receiving your new computer is not that big of a deal.

Worrying for people who are suffering from AIDS, cancer? Should he just sit down at home, crying for some ABCperson cause he is suffering from Cancer?
Should he be taking care of earthquakes and hurricanes and volcanoes?

Doctors and his family must care about him; all I can do is pray. If that is how you really feel and what you really believe, then I can perfectly understand how my pointing out to him that he isn't suffering so badly when compared to some others. Apparently you are of the same mindset as that kid. Selfish, self-centered, arrogant and pathetic. Grow the hell up! Both of you.

Hard to understand such comments from some people. I'm sure.

What are you doing now btw? Why are you posting on MacRumors? Why not go on a rescue operation in Japan and help out those people out? I did voluntarily and I am on a week's leave. What's up?

I am very impressed. I have now reached the point that I really do not give a damn if he really does believe that it sucks to be him because of a delay in receiving his new computer, nor do I care that others in this thread are equally offended. And so in an attempt to make amends for my comment that has offended so many... please let me simply say BITE ME!

way to label everyone of a certain generation based on one post. if that's the attitude of the older generation, then they need to get their feet out their ass

Ewww.... that burns, doesn't it, LarryC?!

Really? How old are you?

Burns? By that, do you mean that statement makes me angry? If that is the meaning of your statement, my answer would be no, it does not make me angry. Knowing that we have created such a generation causes me to feel several things, but anger is not one of those things.

You are correct. That was wrong of me to think that all persons in an entire generation are all identical. This is one of those rare moments that I am both wrong and relieved to be wrong. Regardless, my assessment of that generation (and this is also an assumption) is based upon more than one persons post on an internet forum.

But your statement implied that individuals are ranting, crying, asking the Red Cross for help over their electronics. That assumption is ridiculous, and I'm sure, far from accurate. It was just a post on a forum. And a good portion of the posts like that have been facetious, intending to garner a reaction from someone like you. Guess it worked.

This forum is about electronics, talking about them here should not be considered a problem.

If there was a safe way

Feel lucky to have got mine already. Surprised shipments haven't been more impacted than they are.

I keep seeing all these things about people having trouble getting a new iPad. My local Wal-Mart has a good supply every time I go in there. We are a small town so I guess that helps. If there were a safe way to do it, I would buy them for people and ship them just to help folks out.

A bit of perspective...

Here's a quote from Jim Jannard (founder of RED Digital Cinema and Oakley sunglasses)

"There are people in northern Japan who are walking in radiation trying to stop the incredible madness... they are walking in radiation that will affect their lives forever. And we are worried about supply chain? It just doesn't seem right."

But your statement implied that individuals are ranting, crying, asking the Red Cross for help over their electronics. No, I am not implying that (and if that is how it came across, that was not my intention). I was simply trying to point out that his life does not suck because of a simple delay in receiving his new computer. In other words... things could be a whole lot worse.

I was pointing out a ridiculous statement with another ridiculous statement. I guess you didn't get that?

Quite right. And rest assured that I really don't care to go on with any of this any further. The guy didn't get his iPad as soon as he would have because of a huge earthquake and a tsunami, followed by a nuclear disaster. Tens of thousands died that day and the real loss is that he won't get his computer on time. Hey, I understand now. His delayed delivery is the most important thing. How I ever thought otherwise is a complete and total mystery to me. I guess I just didn't have my priorities in the proper order. Thank you for helping me to see the error of my ways.

more jobs... thanks apple buyers

So we can thank Apple, or at least the customers of Apple, for this boost of jobs, at least that is what I am gathering from the information.

Back in my generation, we did not worry about physical things. If Apple came out with a new horse or a new way to knap flint to make arrow heads for our new fangled bows and arrows, we would send our sea shells and beads to Japan without expecting anything back, just to help save them from their dinosaur meltdown.

Japan worries about their stuff too

Why did everyone in Japan worry about Toyota and Honda etc. Also the prime minister of Japan a couple days after the disaster was crying about the Japanese yen getting to strong. they had a emergency meeting with the g8 (8 major economic Economies) to cheat down the yen so Japanese companies could make more money. The bank of Japan tried earlier to cheat down the Yen but it did not work. so they went to the g8. Why did they not hold off on the release of the 3ds? They are concerned About products and money.
