Thought this was a joke

I was expecting a picture of Homer Simpson punching in at MS.

Buy him an iPod and a Mac Mini, then he'll change his tune.

To be honest, if you worked for BMW, and your son went and straight away bought an Audi, you'd be pretty pissed.

Your dad has some serious issues and needs help. Obviously he is not the role model in his family.

Who the heck cares about things like this?

When parents show teach their kids one thing for years (in this case, Microsoft is king) and the kid goes straight out and does the opposite it can seem to the parent as if they are questioning the way they've been brought up.

Agree 100%.

At the very least he should have asked why you preferred Apple to MS. If he was logical and considerate about it, he might have even agreed with your reasons.

I think your dad should be recognised for his loyalty to the cause.

d well honestly I can understand your dad reaction. He works for M$ and he clearly really like M$ and you buying a Mac is like you being a traitor in his eyes and that hurts.

As other pointed out there are people on both sides of the line that take there love for one company way way to far. I know there have been people here who have thrown a hissy fit when a family member gets a windows PC over a Mac and plainly do not like Macs or OSX. And the people who I talking about doing that are ones who have used OSX and know about it and just plainly do not like it that much.

Also the car example is a great one as well. I have an uncle who works for GM and he does not like it when one of his extended family gets a non GM car. But he has work there for a very long time and so has his dad. It been a very good company to him. I know if he and my aunt ever have kids he going to be very unhappy if any of his kids ever get a non GM car. It very understandable.

Going on with that both Windows and OSX have there advantages and disadvantages both have a lot that is the same. For the most part they both can do the same job and for the most part it personal choice which interface people like better. If you are using the M$ one then OSX seems very odd to you and you would just not like it at least at first. I know people who never really like the Apple UI and they use apples every day. It basically breaks down to which UI you like better because with several basic things that can be set to run automatically (updates and virus scan) you can pretty much does not require any direct interfacing after that and it just which UI you like better. but please lets not get into this debate or flame war. It very off topic and does not really belong in this forum much less this tread.

Basically you just have to play nice with you Dad. He controls finical backing while you are in school and that gives him the right to make the rules. You have to play by his rules if you want to keep getting money from him and I have a feeling wth out his backing you could not afford to go to school or live as well as you do and that lose just would not be worth it.

You could always use the PC for two weeks, but make it look like OS X.

Then again, you could try and make OS X look like XP. And confuse the crap right out of him. :p

There is always plan three. Find a cardboard box, put it over the iMac and cut a hole out just for the screen. Then when he walks by ask him about your new computer case. :p :D

Have fun. :)

This made me laugh my ass off because I was expecting the same thing. Thanks!

No offense, but I think your dad has some extreme mental problems, including self-esteem issues, if he is putting all this energy into "furious" over what computer you use. I would encourage him to see a therapist immediately.
