Finally, something worth the upgrade over my 2G Touch

Exactly what I have and am looking to upgrade. The question is do I go for a new touch or iPhone? Having GPS is a bonus on the phone and I'd buy an unlocked version and go for prepaid so I would be saving over my postpaid cell phone bill.

Why's that? Because of the bright colours? So get a black or a white one—they're still available. These actually look like an improvement to me, because they've replaced the sharp tapered edges with an edge that looks far more comfortable to hold. Aside from this (and the taller screen of course) the design isn't all that different to the previous model!

I'm sorry but regardless of the colour it looks like a kids toy now. The previous model looked so much more professional and stylish. I know a lot of over 30's who are still plugging away with their iPod Classic. I can't see any of them switching to this. It looks like something from Fisher-Price.

----------

Is there some technical reason why they can't go beyond 64GB? iOS restriction maybe? I just don't get it. They disappointed me again. :( I really thought this would be the day that we finally see 128GB in an iOS device.

What does 64GB of memory cost these days? Not much, and even less in the quantities that Apple buys. Can someone shed some light here?

I honestly can't think of a single reason why we still don't have 128GB. We have brilliant retina screens, HD films in the iTunes store, etc and they continue to limit the capacity to 64GB. Madness.

The new nano is not what ive come to expect from Apple... It's hideous.

That is a great analysis! ;) What do you expect from Apple, and why is it hideous? (Obviously you aren't alone in your negative reaction to the design and lack of detail in your post, but I had to choose someone to reply to! lol)

I, personally, think the colors selection is fine, although I still prefer the silver model and the slate gray looks good. My daughter will love the pink, citrus, green, and purple colors. I also think the UI seems just fine. I don't know what else is needed in terms of the home screen.

I think the features are pretty good, too. Bluetooth, the ability to play video, a decent sized screen for a portable photo album, an FM radio, etc. I have the previous generation iPod nano as well, and I like it, too, although I think navigation will be much easier on this new one.

Weak

I was REALLY hoping the new nano would have a video camera again. I use the one on my old nano all the time (I have kids). Since the new nano does not, I won't be buying one. Although to be fair, the last gen nano was probably the worst piece of junk ever - I mean a touch screen on that postage stamp screen? That was just bad design.

Also - those that think the iPods are "just for kids" - no, iPods are for sane adults too. Spending that much on an iPhone data and phone plan each month is literal insanity. Add up how much you spend on your iPhone each year. Then examine your life and priorities a bit harder (although there are exceptions). But if you're under 18, or make under $70K and have an iPhone....I pity you.

whats with the nano UI? why didn't they just the same icons from iOS?

That is what I was thinking. If the "apps" have the same or nearly the same functionality, then it would make sense to use the same icons. Maybe Apple didn't want to confuse an iOS device with a more traditional music player.

Why pity those people who have iPhones & make less than $70 grand a year? Sure, it costs a lot, but ever think we may need the features of the iPhone? And maybe we already paid off our cars & houses. Who are you to pity us on how we spend our money? Since I doubt you personally know every single iPhone owner and what kind of background he/she has, don't pity us. I know I don't want it.

I must be the only one who thinks the iPod Touch looks really, really good. Almost prefer it's look to the iPhone 5.

However, a starting price point of $299 is insane.

Looking at the new iPod touch, it feels like I've seen a curvature like this before. Maybe on a tablet or a smartphone, but I'm racking my brain trying to figure how it is familiar.

With this color and place the new iPod Touch with some angle....
It really looks like s3:eek:

I can't find the information about the colorful back.
Is it plastic or metal?

No, it's just that those who dislike something tend to verbalise it with more frequency and emotion than those who like it.

I think it looks great too. Although my personal preference would be for a black or white one, the market will decide if it likes the colours and send that message to Apple. As for the shape, I think the softer edges are a welcome relief to the uncomfortably pointed edges of the previous generation. I really hope the days of sharp edges on iOS devices are a thing of the past, not to be regurgitated in a later iteration like so many design elements have been.

Not completely true...
If you were separating them with the sales date, Apple TV and new iPad are Tim's products.
If you did it with participate, no one really knows if Jobs is into which products.

But I can confirm one thing. The iPod shuffle is not Tim's product.

'Regardless of the colour'? How many black and white Fisher-Price toys have you seen? I repeat: It's available in both BLACK AND WHITE.

I Love the New/Nano

I've been waiting for the Nano's return to its more classic forms - it's inspied other designs, not copied them - just as I had to wait for the Shuffle to return to its roots. The new Nano is a terric update and I am anxious to buy one.

I use both coz I use my iPhone as a phone come PDA with various apps and some music. However I use my iPod Classic to store my entire music collection. It's nice to have everything on one device I can leave in the house and sit and listen to music in the evenings. I was hoping to finally trade in my Classic for a Touch but I'm not prepared to spend all that money and drop down to 64GB so I guess I'll just keep the Classic for another year.

What you're saying is that kids 9+ usually have smartphones these days. I would agree with that - so why make an iPod Nano and an iPod Touch both for the under 9's market? How big is that market? It seems to me like the Nano and the Touch are aimed at the same people which is kind of stupid. They both look like toys. No self respecting adult would be seen with the new iPod Touch. The previous design looks much better - more stylish and professional. I just don't see the logic. I think this will be a huge flop and we'll see iPod sales fall through the floor over the next year. Honestly the iPod is a dead man walking from what I can see today.

SSD's of that capacity is still expensive so I can understand them not offering higher values. Your Classic is the old way of listening to music, with Google Music and Apple iTunes Match, bigger HD for music is a thing for the past, at least that is what Google and Apple want you to do. You can still buy the older iPod Touch if that's what you like, but the new one can be bought in either white or black too and it looks just like an iPhone 5 but slimmer so I don't see how is not logical, stylish or professional enough for you. The Shuffle is the adult use iPod for workouts and taking it out on a run, the Touch is the gateway drug to the iPhone, the Nano is the lost child that they keep trying to reinvent time after time to see if one style becomes a hit. Honestly I disagree w/ your opinion and believe they took a smart step to a slopping product. Except the Nano, that is ugly! I for one have my whole 12K song collection on Google Music and it's my version uploaded and it was free. I have my music on an external HD, but I'm always even at home streaming it from Google Play if it's not on my iPhone, tablet, Mac or PCs.

However, a starting price point of $299 is insane.

A 32 Gig 3rd gen Touch was $299 and a 64 Gig 3rd gen Touch was $399 when they were released. The price of tech goes down over time but the latest Touch has so much more then the 3rd gen and there is something called inflation.

I can see people being very unhappy over the lack of a new 16Gig Touch but people are crazy if they really expected lower pricing on the new 32Gig/64Gig Touch.

128GB thumb drives are $29 on ebay.

Memory differs a lot. You might be able to get a cheap 128GB drive on ebay but you get what you pay for. If you look at Amazon, you are going to pay a lot more for a reputable device. To minimize cost, Apple would need to use 2 64GB instead of one 128Mb. This is a problem because there is no physical room in the Touch for another 64Gb chip. Instead, if they put a 128 Gb chip in the Touch, it would raise the price beyond the $399 and people would buy a cheaper solution (classic, etc) instead of a Touch. 128Gb in a Touch is not going to happen.

Yeah, I'm thinking it could be some Samsung product I am thinking of, just not the Samsung Galaxy S III, but the color also seems to have something to do with it.

You mean it has been inspired by other designs, right? I am not nit picking on grammar, but leaving out the 'by' makes the sentence confusing.

Sorry if this has been asked to death, but I wonder why the iPod didn't get the A6 proc like the iPhone 5? Is it just so Apple could just upsell and say "Ooh, the iPhone's better! Buy it instead!"

This will be annoying for game developers who want to take advantage of the new faster hardware of the iphone 5 but will have to consider compatibility with the weaker ipod 5th gen.

The Heck With It!!!

iPod Nano has been stuck at 16GB for 5 years. What a joke. Will NEVER buy a Nano that isn't 32GB. Apple is bound and determined not to provide 32GB Nanos...ever. Instead, they force you to buy a Touch. The last iPod Nano with the clickwheel was as close to perfect as this line will ever be.

Honestly, I don't like the company that Apple has become....they now string us along with having a "feature roadmap" where they either trickle new features in or freeze a product specs (e.g. capacity) to force you to move up.

Nokia Lumia, anyone?

I'm glad I skipped buying one last year! Definitely disappointed that there' no 128 GB, but I'm excited the camera is so much improved, and I like that blue color.:)
