The bigger question will this cost US consumers more money or will it stay the same?

Sorry, but a dozen jobs is not worth any extra cost in my Apple products as they are already too expensive as is.

The Mac Pro is made here, but how many are buying a $7k Mac? I had a Power Mac G5 which was $2k or just over $3k in today’s money.

If we want more jobs in America we should be focusing on small and medium sized businesses. Not big corporations that can shift resources away or towards America in an instance depending on who they want to woo. They can also do mergers and close everything here in quick succession or do a layoff to make their numbers look better.

Been a fan/user of Apple products for almost 20 yrs. But something tells me Steve wouldn’t be happy with Apple trying to appease any politician.

When Apple introduced Face ID, the company/factory that makes them is based in Sherman, Texas. After Face ID developed and took off, pretty sure Apple invested 150 million into their R&D to keep making improvements.

I could probably say with good reason, most of these investments have a clause that pretty much makes this money more like an advance for future product.

If there are any additional cost, it won’t be seen for a while or will be because of something else.

Another empty PR. "MP Materials' magnet segment revenue for the first quarter of 2025 was $5.2 million". DOD just announced major investment in the company with the goal to obtain their products for Pentagon. How much magnets do you think Apple will be able to buy from MP Materials? $4M worth per year? Expect many US entities to demonstrate patriotic fervor while still buying most of the stuff from China.

This isn’t new for Apple though; Steve Jobs worked with Corning to create the glass face for the new iPhone. All of that glass ships from a Kentucky plant.

How hard did he work? This glass was developed well before Apple started buying it. Before capacitive screen tech was developed (not by Apple, but Apple and LG were the first companies that started using it in their phones) nobody needed this glass.

31.6% of the eligible electorate voted for Trump in 2024. 49.8%, if you only count registered.

Neither are a majority.
They are the majority of the people that voted. Trump got 77,302,580 and Kamala got 75,017,613. So yes the majority of people that voted support Trump.

The majority of people that vote isn't the entire country. Congress, and the president, should represent all the citizens, regardless of party affiliation, lack there-of or if they voted. It's their job.

Elected officials are our servants. Not the other way around.

Yes it is. Because enough people vote to make it a good representation of the whole country.

In fact in Trump's case I would say that the anti-Trump'ers were rabid and came out in droves and still could not win, while a lot of normal people just sat at home and didn't vote. So there is a case to be made that Trump has more of the support of the country than the vote indicates. But that is theoretical and does not matter.

Steve is dead. He will never know.

"Dozens of new U.S. jobs" :D

To be fair, a lot of manufacturing is heavily automated. Doesn't necessarily need to be high tech robotic automation either. A big mill might be able to refine 100's of tonnes of raw material a day, and only require 1 or 2 workers to man.

It's not like people are manually cracking rocks open with hammers to extract the rare earth minerals.

But yeah, 500M sounds way bigger than what it actually is, and "dozens" basically mean "yeah there'll be some new jobs, but the majority of the profits go to shareholders and directors"
