Complicated interface, no real reason to exist besides just to be there

A very anti Steve jobs product

Complicated interface - don't think so.. the apps are looking very simple.
No real reason to exist - thanks for clarifying that you have absolutely no idea what a smart watch is for.

Will wait for fitness side reviews. I mean real reviews from real people Walt Mossberg and the like excluded.

But its clear now it will not be better than my Amiigo.

There is very little buzz for the apple watch

Apple watch finally releases a dud product

Are you kidding me?

This product has been all over the news for over a year now. My bet: launch models will dell out within a few minutes.

These apple watch threads are going to be so hilarious to read if the apple watch end up being a huge success. I think I will bookmark this one as a matter of fact lol. Only three pages in and there's potential to be some funny stuff to look back at once a year rolls around.

Careful. This cuts both ways.

If you are looking for fitness stuff, I say wait until version 2 or 3.

First completely new product family without you know who.

Well, were I live there is a lot of buzz, but definately not from the geeks-nerds that hang out here in MR. I am not excited but my wife is very much so. Most of my IT friends are not excited, but my art and fashion friends are. So are the rich and status oriented ones (not my friends, but I know enough to hear the buzz).

I don't know what crowed you two hang out with, but I tell you there are crowds out there that are buzzing.

First Apple product ever that I'm not excited about... (even if I'm a bit of a watch enthusiast). Just too expensive for the accessory that it is...

As someone stated before, maybe there are different categories of people that do feel the buzz. I don't know anyone that's going to buy one however (and I know a lot of Apple minded people that did go out and buy the ipod, iphone or ipad). I really wonder how it will sell, but can't begin to guess.

Exactly. This isn't improving something that hasnt been done well (ipod, ipad, and iphone all did this), this is just "hey, wouldn't you like to have TWO devices now to charge daily instead of one?"

Remember the original iPhone announcement, where steve said in amazement that they combined 3 devices into the iphone? Maybe Tim Cook should...

Now, in a few years if the watch can completely replace my smartphone, then I would be interested.

p.s. I think the watch will sell, but not massively...more like the Apple TV which still sells a fair amount

walking distance

It seems like these locations are within short walking distance of flagship Apple Stores (Opera... Oxford Circus...) - making servicing and up-selling easier. Clever.

iPod had no reason to exist - There were Walkmans and CD players.

iTunes had no read to exist - there was the radio and heck, even Napster.

The iPhone had no reason to exist - cell phones and even "smart" phoned aready existed.

The iPad had no reason to exist - laptops were already huge and other tablets had already failed.

Notice a trend here...? None of these products had a "reason" to exist other than convenience and assurance of a quality product. Besides, if I had to guess, Apple has bigger plans for the Apple Watch than just a side kick for the iPhone. My thought is that they can/will eventually sell it as its own standalone product that doesn't need an iPhone wirelessly attached and can event text, call, etc. all on its own.

I simply do not see the appeal of this product. Admittedly I do not wear a watch, dislike gold, and associate the term "fashion" with "sheep". When the Apple Watch is waterproof, thinner, can stand on it's own, and has an interface that doesn't require reading glasses then I'll take a gander.

It has to work without iPhone and be able to learn exercises, just like Amiigo does. I was able to teach it every single exercise so far. Great device. I might consider it then. Oh and battery life of couple of days.

Have you used one yet? Oh, you haven't? How do you know how the interface looks in person? Btw - it can be zoomed. Btw - it can be worn in showers and pool so I'm not sure what you need it for? You realize none of the big smart watches or fitness bands on the market are "water proof", right?

Are people forgetting about HealthKit and ResearchKit? Its obvious that down the road Watch will play a much bigger part in both of those initiatives. Apple didn't hire all these doctors and researchers from the medical devices industry for nothing.

Except that they had to leave a lot out that was planned because they just couldn't get them to reliably work. Which means that Apple Watch 1.0 will become quickly outdated and useless once they get the other sensors up and running. So are people going to then shell out another $17,000 for a new Gold Apple Watch 2.0?

It seems like they are really positioning it as a fashion accessory.

The people who spend $17,000 on it are obviously not concerned about it becoming outdated I would think. If you can drop 17k on an apple watch what makes you think they wouldn't do it again for the second generation. The lower model watches yes those people might be concerned about the longevity of the first generation watch. But if it's a good product, many will buy it again.

Happens all the time. People upgrade their items constantly.

If that's true that's exactly what Apple wants. There is a reason for all the ads in fashion magazines.

Ever use iTunes?

Btw - showers okay. Pool - not so much. Unless you're in a kiddy pool less than 30 minutes. :D It's only WR for a depth of 1m for up to 30 min. Pebble is the only smartwatch I know with significant WR (50m).

To be honest I don't care about the 17K watch. And no it won't become useless. I know people still using an iPad 2 and it works perfectly fine. I have friends who are still rocking an iPhone 5 and it's certainly not useless.

I'm not sure that you would actually be happy with a 5 inch screen strapped to your wrist. So you would either have to give up the convenience of having something strapped to your wrist or give up the 5 inch screen.
