I like to see Apple adding some value to a service that I forgot to cancel. Just doing my bit to get Timmy and the team to $4tn.
All it takes is one. One idiot on the wrong side of the road or greenway, one moment of distraction with your attention deep into your music or podcast while an attacker hits you from behind, one daydreaming moment where a snake in front of you is unseen, etc. Music in the ears is very good at distracting us.
This is interesting and you can see Apple and Nike are still playing nice (trying to) with this add-on. While all of my miles have been logged in NRC since 2013, I may try these out.
Unless Fitness+ adds the ability like NRC to listen to your own playlists with a guided run, I can see how this might be glossed over. Hearing Coach Bennett, Coach Cory or even Daniel the Engineer and others chirp in occasionally is no big deal when I’m in control of the music.
Exactly the one I'm looking forward to..I also do CORE 3 x per week. 30day challenge sounds intriguing!
The playlist ability of NRC is incredibly clunky - you have to add songs to a playlist and then start said music playlist playing (via the Music app) and THEN you also have to manually start the 'run' in NRC??! Neither Apple or Nike play nice with each other.....
Yep, for sure. Music is so powerful it can pull us out of what we were doing.I have had people walking and running wearing ear buds where I can literally HEAR their music before I got up to them, and *some* will freak out because they see some part of me, even after I've been yelling that I am passing them on their left.
Absolutely. And to make matters worse, there are a lot more silent or nearly silent electric vehicles being used now. I'd be interested to see how many people are killed by Teslas, Leafs, and Priuses, or "other".People have gotten hurt badly panicking and jumping in front of a bicyclist. Usually hurting both themselves, and the biker(s). Wearing/using ear buds, and especially headphones is DANGEROUS! Even just one bud. It really might be more than enough to cause the kind of distraction that causes an accident. Some accidents have caused life long problems for those involved. People that are using them and kidding themselves that they are 'safe' by using just one are on a fools mission... I wish I could get people to stop using ear buds. Heck, even rides that 'forbid' the use of such technology usually don't enforce it! Why say they aren't allowed, and ignore the people using them? Was the statement a CYA move? It's cowardly to then not enforce it. Mystified...
Agreed. But: I might use the Core (or one of the other) challenges for off days/ latter in the day exercising. I've looked at it and may just include an extra 5min or 10min in the evening (or whenever ) I have the free time.I often find myself 'getting up' to move about for 5min. or so anyway. Now it would just be more scheduled. Even if I don't make the whole 30 days 25-50 % or so will still be excellent . May use them in this or some other way. Anyone else have any ideas?Hmm - its not really a challenge I don't think!!!
I've just had a look - there are 10 Core workouts of 5 mins each. Then there is a second set of 10 Core workouts at 10 mins each and then there is a third set of 10, again, at 10 mins each. So that's 30 Core workouts in 30 days.
I generally do 3 x 10 mins Core workouts a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) along with 3 x 20 mins Strength workouts and 2 x 30 minute HIIT workouts (Tue, Thur) which is far more than the 'Core Challenge' above..!!
I think I'll be sticking with my routines!
The London 'Run' session looks interesting though as it has its own playlist of music within the Fitness App but I wonder if it will just be the music playing with the instructor just chiming in at given intervals with encouragement? If that's all it is then I'll be sticking with my Nike Run Club app for running.

For me, there's one thing that will pull me out of music, and that is reading and writing. It's as if the brain, although it's amazing and able to multitask, puts more processing power into certain things, sometimes with a hierarchy of prioritization.
For me, reading and listening to music can trump each other depending on the reading material and the song. But writing always blocks out my audio processing. I can be listening to the news and writing a post, and I'll realize that I didn't even hear any of the news items. I can be reading the news, and that will prevent me from absorbing the song or podcast that I'm listening to.
So weird!

And don't forget bad guys. They hunt, and they try not to make noise so that they can get the jump on you. If you're jamming on earbuds, you're making their hunt go easier by making yourself appear as a zebra or gazelle who's distracted and not prepared to fight back or even flee. Whether or not we're packing, we should ALWAYS be watching and listening to our surroundings.
I tried the trio of 'Back' exercises today but if I'm honest, they don't target your back area at all?!!!!
Its literally a random 10 minute Core exercise combined with another random 10 minute Strength exercise combined with a final random 10 minute Yoga exercise none of which really target the 'Back' area....?!!
I'll be sticking to my 10 minutes of Core and 20 minute Strength sessions......
