Agreed, AoD ( Always on Display ) has been on Android phones for like 7+ years, and those early AoD phones still used LCD screens, and some of the early OLED screens were of poor quality, but still had AoD.

So I'm just confused why Apple can only add AoD to a phone like the upcmomning iPhone 14 Pro line, with the newest best display tech, but can't on older iPhone's. Even the iPhone 13 Pro's display have way better screen tech than those old Android phones that had AoD.
I had a google pixel one that had horrible battering performance and got blazingly hot and poor screen colors, but it had AOD. These are design compromises apple doesn't make so they kick features down the road until they can do them in an integrated way that does not compromise their exacting design goals.

Which, imagine, is probably around 99% of iPhone users in the world.

just going to quote my reply to the other person who had the same elementary response:

"
that's your question?

not:

"why is apple getting excited about something that their devices were capable of *12 years ago*?"

literally the company is trying to convince you that the annual "refresh" of their flagship device's OS has this absolutely *groundbreaking new feature* that is not remotely new at all. not only is it derivative, it's also limited in functionality."

Oh please. The pixel is one of the best phones android has released. I have 3. All 3 had pretty good battery, never got hot, and the screens were very nice.

Was expecting any news whether RCS gets supported and for me whole event was ok nothing groundbreaking. New MacBook Air looks good

It is marketing. Nothing else. They need to release a ‘new’ feature on each new iPhone model to make it compelling for people to upgrade.

Surely they could add AoD to existing iPhone models, especially those with OLED-screens. But why on earth would they do that, if lying about ‘new hardware is needed’ makes the billions pour in, thanks to iPhone users upgrading their devices?

The no. 1 goal of Apple is to get your money. Simple as that.

Other than the return of a full-screen music player coming back to the lock screen in iOS 16, any other Apple Music enhancements mentioned?

*sigh* Still no firewall.😑😑😑 Honestly, I can understand why it will never happen (ads revenue, ads revenue, ads revenue). I still want a firewall though...to block ads.😁 And security, but mostly to block ads.😉

I'm more interested in the list of bug fixes rather than the list of new bugs features.
You can get ad blockers for iOS on the App Store, apple has its own built in firewall the reason they don’t let it be open and free to use is because it’s deemed a security risk, apple has one of the most secure phone operating systems in the world

No mention of always on display with the new Lock Screen. Guessing if this comes this year will be only for iPhone 14 pro.
I’m downloading it on an iPhone 13 pro max I will let you know once it’s installed if this feature is on any other devices

What you call Apple's built in firewall is a joke at best. You can block an apps access to cellular data at most. An app can still sneak data on and off your phone through WiFi and near field. Rubbish firewall. The root access firewall I use can block cellular, wifi and near field as I choose. It ain't as powerful as a true computer's firewall, but it's a lot better than the joke firewall Apple offers.

But I didn’t see Apple saying AOD is a “groundbreaking new feature”. 🤔
