You can't have it both ways. I find it somewhat contradictory to complain that iOS 6 has nothing to offer - then freak out because you can't update your original iPads with it. If it has nothing new to offer, then why do you care? It's not as if all original iPads are going to go dead and blank on the day iOS 6 releases and function nevermore. They will offer us the same (in my opinion, great) iOS 5 experience that we've been having all along. In fact, I don't think that Apple is trying to "force" you to buy a new iPad. I think they're figuring that you can continue to enjoy using the device running iOS 5 that you purchased and presumably are pretty happy with. And if really you can't live with continuing to use iOS 5, then yeah, maybe you do need new hardware.
And as far as those bemoaning the fact that we haven't gotten a major OS overhaul - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! iOS is a great operating system that has helped Apple to become the most valuable public company in the world. Not to mention, customer satisfaction ratings of the iPhone 4S are in the 90th percentile. Android phones? Not so much. Overhauling something that is incredibly popular and successful in the name of "innovation" would be the utmost stupidity.
