Wow Apple! How many SKUs do you need? Three memory sizes based on pure greed - 32gb should be $500. 3G x 3 for both Verizon and AT&T instead of a global device that would encourage price competition for data plans.

And Jony I've calls a white paint job a redesign. Maybe in England it is.

Jobs, get some more rest. You've just 'flummoxed' a lot of customers too.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::apple::mad::mad:

Excellent points. Surprised no one else mentioned this. Tehy must be flummoxed by the magic. LOL.

Nothing really earth shattering with this release. New processor. Cameras. Smaller.

Good stuff, but nothing fantastic.

Would have liked to see more of a preview of the next version of the OS, or see something about where MobileMe is going, etc.

Hold it for a second. So with the "Hotspot" Feature i could use the 3G connection from my iPhone4 to browse the web on my iPad 2? If so, i wouldnt have to purchase the 3G version. Can anyone confirm this working?
Thats correct!

If you were smarter than I was and kept an unlimited data plan, that would be very wise indeed. CNet just did a test and the iPhone lasted nearly 6 hours as a hotspot streaming video. Pretty impressive.

I believe you have to pay AT&T EXTRA to use the iPhone as a hotspot, in addition to the monthly data charges associated with normal iPhone use...someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I gotta say usually all the hype preceding events like this makes the actual presentation/product underwhelming, but I am just in awe of this iPad. I did not expect it to be so thin and beautiful. This is just so awesome.

What about it's availability in white? :p

iPad 2 vs MacBook Air

I want to get this forum's opinion on which you think is a better purchase, the newly announced iPad 2 or the MacBook Air. I'm leaning toward the MBA with a pocket WiFi as I didn't really see anything that trilled me about the new iPad. I already own the first gen. iPad and I'm thinking about giving that to the Misses. The only thing that I really like about Apple's iOS devices is the overwhelming amount of software made for them. Buying full-fledged apps for a notebook that perform same or similar function as an iApp such as writing music etc.. can be significantly more expensive. That's the only advantage I can see. Anyone else care to comment? Am I missing something?

Verizon users have been using it for sometime now. You just have to look in the iphone forum.

Has there been any word on Verizon data plan pricing for the iPad and how it compares to AT&T? I can find nothing on this subject!
This is the first time that Verizon has gotten a non-wifi ipad. You'll have to wait for Verizon to announce their plans.

Can't they make the 3G service generic? One model and you choose the provider and change as you wish?
I heard there are now chips that do this.
What are you talking about?

Wow, love the new A5 processor.
This itself means the iPhone 5 will be a major upgrade.

Looking forward to getting the black one! It'll be my first iPad.

[sarcasm]Complaints about the iPad 2? I think i'll be skipping this for the iPad 3 though, or maybe the iPad 4 [/sarcasm]

My wife and I considered getting an iPad 1 during the holidays, but decided to wait given the timing on this release (or the rumors of it then). Now, as I sit in the airport typing this on my mbp (that happened to get dropped out of the car I was riding in, denting the corner and screwing up the top of the keyboard cover), I wonder how I would be typing a response or anything on an iPad in a situation like this.

My mbp screen faces me at the right angle, it sits on my lap comfortably (albeit making my lap hot) and I can very quickly knock out emails and work as I wait.

I do see the benefit of the iPad on the plane, where unless I spend the money for first class, there just isn't enough room to type.

How do those of you who have an iPad work on the fly? Do you need a table to put it on? Carry a stand? Hold and learn to type quickly one-handed?

I'm extremely impressed with the new iPad and will be in line next week if I can better understand how to use it in real world situations. In fact, I'm ready to retire the mbp and get an iMac for the office and iPad for traveling (along with the i4 I already have and love).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had decided to wait for this update to see what was added, but now I am looking at the alternatives.
The Motorola xoom is going to get a serious look.
In any case, I won't buy the current ipad2 because of all its limitations, and if the others don't convince me, I'll pass on tablets again.
They are really just toys at the moment.

So you're going to give the xoom a serious look and at the same time you're saying that all tablets are toys that you'll pass on? God the troll's logic is dumbfounding. There seems to be a direct correlation between the success of an apple product launch and the increase in quantity and stupidity of troll posts.

Keep it up apple - the trolls are saying that you practically hit this one out of the ball park.

the xoom is awesome!

Looks epic. Ordering immediately. Winning.

Charlie Sheen?

Not exactly. If it were Charlie Sheen, it would read: "Looks rock star! " :D

I'm torn between a low-end iPad 2 or one of the massively discounted iPad 1 refurbs, myself. I'm not necessarily disappointed in the lack of higher capacities; if I wanted more than 64 Gb of media and apps with me, I'll take my MBP; it does Flash if need be, too.

- Still way overpriced for what it does
- Essentially its caught up to the iPod Touch in terms of features
- No Capacity Updates
-/+ Thinner? Really? When is apple going to stop this thinner garbage their products are thin enough.
+ Updated processor, which is nice

It isn't sending any competitor back to the drawing board, LOL.

If I didn't have the iPad 1 I would buy this one however, I'm not inclined to spend another $600.00. I mainly use mine when sitting on the sofa, surfing, emailing and playing some games. Still prefer my MBP for surfing since a lot of websites come up as mobile versions and I'm not real happy with the presentation. Everything else is great. I'm waiting to see if the Phone 5 will have the chips for the next generation of the cellular network. Still, the iPad 2 is a nice piece of hardware.

the cover seems cool, just wondering if that will slide off often while it's in a backpack/man-bag or something similar.

a little disappointed in this because it's basically the same as we have in the ipod touch 4g, which i already have. i've been wanting an ipad for some time now. the best thing about this is the faster speed. i was hoping for something much lighter, from 1.5lb to 1.3lb is hardly dramatic. and facetime isn't something i cared about.

wondering though, did they say that photobooth is 4.3 or just 4.3 for the ipad 2? i'm wondering if photobooth will come to my ipod touch. i hope. if it weren't for the speed of the ipad 2, i probably would just go buy an ipad 1 today. but alas, i will wait until march 11 and order one online, hoping the speed is really great and hoping some great ipad apps come along that make great use of the gyroscope and cameras.

Wow. Whiners are unbearable. What do the android tablets have that the iPad 2 doesn't? A 5mp camera? Who cares who's taking pics with a tablet. It'll do FaceTime that's good enough. Better resolution? Ok maybe a tiny bit but you know when apple does change the screen it'll be retina now because of the iPhone and I'm sure a screen that good isn't possible cost wise right now hopefully next year. I think its a great upgrade and paired with apples software and iOS 5 still coming it'll still level every competitor coming this year.

I'll be buying one! Not because i believe the silly PR stuff mr. ive is spouting on the advert; this isn't an earth shattering update, but it is a pretty good evolution of the product... I was in the market for an ipad anyway, so this is great timing :)

I noticed something strange - it's mentioned that you can hook the iPad 2 up to your TV via an HDMI adapter, and it's specified as 1080p. However, if you look in the tech specs section, you'll see:

- Video mirroring and video out support: Up to 1080p with Apple Digital AV Adapter or Apple VGA Adapter (cables sold separately)
- Video out support at 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable
- Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

In other words, it can output 1080p but I don't see any format delivering it..?

Right, it is mirroring the screen of the iPad in 1080p, but the actual dimensions of the iPad are not the same aspect ratio of a 1080p display. Meaning that the image projected has the 1080p resolution for the section of the display actually displaying information (forget the black bars on left and right of the screen.)

I may be off on that explanation, but since it is not true video out, but really a mirror of the screen, it seems to me to be the way it works.
