At WWDC today Apple revealed a collection of iPad-specific abilities coming to iOS 11, including a new customizable dock that can be accessed from any screen, multitasking features, new app switcher, and support for Drag and Drop.

iOS 11 makes multitasking on iPad even more powerful with a new customizable Dock that provides quick access to frequently used apps and documents from any screen, and a redesigned app switcher makes it easier to move between pairs of active apps, used in Split View and now Slide Over.
From the new dock, apps can be dragged and instantly added into Slide Over view, where users can drag images, text, URLs and more across a variety of different apps. A new QuickType keyboard will be more productive as well, with users able to get access to different punctuation within specific key bindings.

New iPad specific features in iOS 11 is the best thing I saw today! Will surely boost iPad productivity!

Now how do I get my hands on iOS 11 today since I no longer have a dev account?

Actually think I also 11 is more impressive for the iPad than it was for the iPhone. I think there are a lot of added benefits with the iPad, especially with the new introduced models.

This was the best news of the day by far...but wow, almost all of the rumors (group FaceTime, dark mode, FaceTime Audio default calling) were WAY off.

I certainly hope this is not the case! Keeping a major new feature from such a recent product would be a real disappointment...

True. The fact that they announced it alongside the new 10.5 iPad made it seem like it was going to get all the new features, but that will likely not be the case.
Right. That's what I'm counting on as well.

The thick of it
What's the point of investing in a MacBook now the iPad is becoming so capable?
Exactly. I thought this part of the keynote was the most exciting and forward-thinking. Just when I had started to think Apple had run out of ideas with the iOS, they reinvigorated it. I can now see my iPad Pro replacing most of my day-to-day computing tasks. And I just got Affinity Photo for iPad (which I use on my Mac). The future really is starting to look like mobile.
