Apple Announces Liquid Glass Improvements and Transparency Slider

Nice. Thank you Apple! This should solve my major complaint with Liquid Glass on iOS, and some of the issues on macOS.

I still want to see the excessively roundered window corners fixed in macOS, however. There's just no good reason for this: it doesn't look good and it wastes so much screen space.

Yeah, the underlying point of the joke was that it's an unreasonable ask for any number of reasons--except of course if the custom-made OS is made by AI, yes... AI might be the only interface most people will need.

Here's the prompt I would use:

"Siri, I don't like this Liquid Glass interface. It looks garish and makes the OS harder to use. Please rewrite macOS to remove Liquid Glass, adhering to best-practice UX principles. Look for opportunities to improve performance and memory consumption while you're at it. You must either retain 100% compatibility with all existing applications, or rewrite those applications too."

Haha nice prompt but it might be awhile before AI will be able to carry that out, especially on Apple hardware.

Looks like most of the first party apps got the Liquid Glass treatment except the Safari icon for some reason, which looks exactly the same since the iOS 7 era...

I don’t get it. people who don’t like liquid glass like myself have already turned on the reduce transparency feature in setting. I don’t see any liquid glass effect.

Hmm... there seems to be slight bug in Spotlight on MacOS 27 on my M1 MacBook Air.

If you enable "Reduce Transparency" in System Settings > Accesibility > Vision: Display then the Spotlight search field gets a black bar covering the top half of the search field.

Anyone else see that, or is it just me?

I'm in minority, still use old OSes, but I like that with this one they at least fixed the bars in macOS! Finders looks much better now.

This is great. Apple should've held back Liquid Glass last year, or made it optional, because it wasn't ready. This is how it should have been released. I also like the sider, as I thought about a frosted glass interface (inspired by the Vision OS) before Liquid Glass had even been announced.

Had to announce liquid glass working or not because they were so far behind with AI.

Then everyone complained about liquid glass.

Remember folks for someone like Cook this is all about image, not functionality, usability, or reliability.

How is it inconsistent lol? It’s system wide. As long as the app was already using Liquid Glass.

Are you sure about that? Every app developer does it's own thing with Liquid Glass. There's no universal slider.

The slider should be a stepped slider so you can set all your devices to the same transparency.

I totally agree. But I would only use one of the steps 😊

They fixed a contentious feature. Great. Now what’s the CPU/battery cost for fully variable opacity?

Having transparency at all costs something. But whether you have it at 90% or 10% you have to do the same calculations.
