So is it being throttled in the Air as it’s fanless? I’m surprised it’s the same chip in all 3 machines rather than M1 in air and an M1X in the MBP for example.

There was no mention of core speeds or a real comparison between existing intel processors. Has anyone seen anything where we get a real view of the capabilities?

Intel should've seen this coming long ago. One of the biggest tech mismanagement mistakes. It's even losing ground in the server market.

So at the end, M1 is a 16/16 (=32 core) chip or what? I don't know what the 16 neural engine cores do.. The graphic where they showed the comparison performance was pretty ambitious to be honest. I hope they can match those in real life performance..

I didn't see anything about the GHz rating. Does anyone know?

Will existing Mac apps from third-party developers work straightaway or will they have to be rewritten for the new CPU?

I sense another app purge in the App Store which will require an updated version of your apps to run them on the M1 chipset. All those apps I’ve downloaded to my computer are obsolete.

Geekbench 5 of an unreleased Mac with an A14X (which means it was likely an M1) benched higher on single and multi core than the 8-core i9 in the 16" MBP.
Don't know if it's a faked benchmark, don't know if it really represents the M1, but if it does... oh my God.
As soon as they release a new iMac, I'm in baby!

No, only some marketing infographics with 'latestp PC laptop chips', and that is kinda misty because there are so many. I take any of these 3x, 5x, 10x, 100x faster claims with a bag of salt. And wait for the real contest when testers get this in their hands.

Without proper software, like a full version of Photoshop, illustrator, premiere pro ect etc.. this computer, at this stage doenst make sense for me. But in all fairness, i am interested

It was the graphs that bugged me... "Latest PC laptop chip"... well that could mean anything i3, i5, i7, i9, ultra low voltage... way to be utterly ambiguous Apple. I'll wait for some real world application benchmarks.

Not an expert, but these M1s would do great in server farms, since there electricity matters. If Apple wants to go green, they should start a server hardware business too, for, you know, the planet. Or put these in their Services servers, at least. Especially, with that integrated stuff they shown where data doesn't need to travel or be stored from place to place on the mainboard.

Probably tricky to shake a finger at Intel directly in the presentation considering they’re still selling Intel Macs. I see it as less ambiguous and more not trying to **** on their existing lineup too hard.

What will this do for Bootcamp? Will Microsoft make Windows 10 available for ARM-type processors?

Screaming and crying at Intel’s headquarters as we speak.
Why would Intel care or cry about Apple Silicon? Intel has AMD to worry about. Only Apple will be using Apple Silicon while the rest of the world will be using hundreds of millions of Intel and AMD processors. Apple has a relatively small market share and those MacBook prices will not do much to increase its market share. The world is full of consumers who want cheap X86 laptops and Chromebooks. Apple still has nothing to compete with those cheap laptops that consumers desire.

Apple Silicon will be mostly dismissed by the tech industry pundits as being an expensive oddity that runs macOS and doesn't support Windows. The computer tech industry always laughs at what Apple does as being stupid. Absolutely no one believes Apple Silicon will replace X86 processors. Old habits die hard for most people. I'm ready to make the Apple Silicon switch as soon as possible. I don't need any more X86 processor computers as I already have four working X86 Macs.

It is a very smart and safe way to enter the market. Personally I would have loved the impact however of new design, new silicon, new mini LED, higher end models, etc, etc. A real Steve Jobs in your face everything you can offer all or nothing approach, show the world what Apple can do with absolute resolution and confidence!
