There are going to be so many preowned deals on 8GB RAM Macs out there

Sadly, I want no part of 8GB of RAM

They sat still decent machines of you’re not using lots of AI. Remember there are a huge number of recent Mac’s with 8 GB RAM spec. Those are going to be supported in one way or another for at least another 3 years or so. May not get all features but will be fine for regular office tasks and content consumption.

But these updates on RAM mid cycle look like they were caught out with the RAM situation. The same on their tablets and phones lineup, most iPhone and iPad users now have devices with little RAM considering the recent RAM doubling going on. That’s a huge spec bump.

That display refresh rate is embarrassing for anything more than a $200 Chromebook.

If the Air had mini LED/HDR, I would get it over the Pro, but it doesn't and that's why I bought the Pro...

I'm definitely never going back to 60Hz/LCD on a MacBook, so the day the Air gets that upgrade, I'll switch from the Pro. Power-wise it would be more than enough for me.

By now, people with Intel-based Mac should have no excuses to not upgrade unless they're stuck with some decade old software or attach to the 27-inch iMac form factor.

Honestly I'm surprised it's 16 for the Air and not something like 12
They have been caught out by the AI train and all its requirements. They probably had urgent meetings regarding not updating RAM significantly in devices sooner.

The most interesting part of this for me is the fact that they are using Affinity Photo to benchmark instead of Photoshop.

I wonder if this may be partially related to the subscription and terms/conditions fiasco of recent times from Adobe. Benchmarking M4 on Affinity Photo is a marketing win IMO.

Edit:

Oops. That was supposed to be for the MacBook Pro thread. Oh well whatever.

The egregious part of this is that the type of buyer who probably bought a base RAM spec is also exactly who's going to likely want a whole bunch of the Apple Intelligence features that they won't be able to access without buying new hardware again

We could see this coming and it's just SUCH poor form from Apple

Such a screw job to their customers

Well then... Hmm, that is surprising!

I paid way too much to upgrade my M1 Air to 16gb.. money which could have went to more internal storage. Better late than never...I guess...
