Absolutely a good deal. Does make me think the low cost MacBook will be at least $699, though.
Yeah, Apple clearly had a bunch of 128gb inventory they were looking to deplete. I wonder if we’ll see a jump in the base storage of the low-end iPad tomorrow.

Holy crap, 512GB STARTING is not bad at all. insane value for a MacBook
MacBook Air M4 could be configured up to 2TB. M5 Air is up to 4TB.

It’s $100 more than it was. But fair enough with the storage bump. Shame Apple couldn’t be arsed to switch up the colours though.
I would rather pay $999 for 256 Gb SSD.

Configured one out and it's $1899 for 2TB SSD and 24GB RAM. Sigh. I guess I'll see what tomorrow holds.

For iOS devices 256 is now my minimum. I've been buying 512GB (or higher) Macs for about 15 years now. 256 is very constrained when the Adobe suite alone can eat up 80 gigabytes.
What a great computer.
Most people who need a decent laptop should get this.
(And who aren’t serious content creators and who aren’t driven mad by the lack of pro motion etc)
And barely anyone should get anything other than the starting price 13 or 15.

It's like car price anchoring with Apple. Either buy the base model for the value (cough Mac minis...) or go up a notch in the product line once you start ticking off extras. You'll get most of the extras you wanted included on the base model with a nicer display and some extra I/O to boot.
I actually didn’t see the base storage jump coming - that’s a handy upgrade! Also makes the 1TB storage tier more affordable as the next in line. The base price has jumped slightly, but not by as much as the almost essential storage upgrade would have been, so I think this is a nice update!
It also makes sense, as it moves the Air slightly higher up the chain, making room for the new MacBook below it coming tomorrow… 🥳

But with more base storage. Clearly Apple is addressing the increase in RAM prices, but the bump up in base storage makes it more palatable.

I'm putting my bets on 8GB fixed, that A18 Pro chip as expected will be used in the budget macbook only has a 8GB variant with TSMC showing no signs that they have started production on a different variant.
This remains Apple's greatest bang-for-the-buck piece of tech. Affordable. Light. Punches above its weight. For the handful of you still alive who speak "MechAssault" (the original, not the abomination that followed) it is the Bowman.
