Apple today announced that it will be opening an impressive new street-facing store in Vancouver, British Columbia on Friday, November 18.

The new Apple Pacific Centre store is positioned diagonally on the corner of West Georgia and Howe Streets and faces the Vancouver Art Gallery. To celebrate the grand opening of the store, the glass facade is wrapped in colorful artwork created by prominent Canadian designer Mo Bofill in collaboration with Musqueam weaver and artist Debra Sparrow.

The two-floor outdoor location will replace Apple's existing store inside the adjacent Pacific Centre shopping mall, which originally opened in 2008. Apple shared a photo of the new store today, providing a closer look at the temporary artwork, wood plank ceiling, green wall backdrop, and terraced plaza.

Throughout the store's grand opening weekend, visitors can participate in free Today at Apple sessions, including a live performance by Vancouver-based rapper and musician Boslen, a Q&A moderated by Apple Music radio host George Stromboloupoulos, a live performance by award-winning choreographer Chloé Arnold, and more.

Apple Pacific Centre will become Apple's third street-facing store in Canada, joining Apple Saint-Catherine and Apple DIX30 in the Montréal area.

(Thanks, Michael Steeber!)

Been waiting for this for years, can't wait! Used to work across from the old mall entrance that Apple took over and it was an eyesore

Was not aware of this new store! Hope it will be a bit bigger than the current one underground.

Nice (kind-of) street art representing the area too.
edit -> Oh my..., I didn't notice it was just a wrapping! Thanks @nelloismello.

The painting is hippy, trashy and ghetto.

Imagine a Rolls Royce with painting like this...
Eh looks like most of the temporary public art that gets commissioned in Vancouver.

You should see the art that EA commissioned (this one is used to hide the fence that surrounds the build site lol) for their new addition to one of their headquarters in Burnaby

New store tracks movement of every user, what they look at on shelves, which devices they pick up and for how long, etc. Also bombards customers with in-store ads via TV screens and audio.

Nice looking shop!
Would be interesting if the imagery 'wrap' was a permanent part of the store's design – it's so vibrant and interesting.
I like that wrap too. I'd love to see it stay for a little while at least.

I just wanted to share that this store demolished the iconic dome entrance to the Pacific Centre.
But it's nice that Vancouver is getting a bigger Apple store as the original store inside the mall was tiny!

Edit: Not mentioned in the article, but this is how the store is rendered to look when the wrapping is removed
Oh, really? That's great IMO, since I've always disliked that dome. This looks MUCH better (with wrap or without wrap).

No need to imagine.

Anyhow, I think it's great. 🤩

Hopefully they get to unionize ASAP
I made $20 CAD per hour while I worked at the old pacific centre Apple store from 2019-2021. So now I have to pay 25% income taxes AND 2% union fees? No thanks. They treated us really well already.

Growing up along the border, I always thought it was Vancouver, British Columbia, and that saying Canada was redundant. I mean, it sounds strange to say Austin, United States.

I'm a huge Apple fan but try to avoid going to Apple retails stores at all costs. The crowds, the waiting, the confusion & wandering trying to get someone's attention. The way you can spend thousands on a purchase and never even hear "thanks for your business". Everything takes 5X as long as it should and tries the limits of patience.

Does anyone ENJOY going into an Apple Store?

They've improved in the last few years, but yes they are still somewhat disorganized.

Basically they're fine if it's not too crowded, but once it gets crowded it can be quite bad. In other more traditional stores, for example there are places to queue so you know where you stand in terms of how long it will be. At the Apple Store, it's too scattered so you're at the whim of whomever is working at that time.

A few years back I actually wrote to Tim Cook about this (and got a response from his team). I had gone in to get something was told to wait. So I waited and waited and waited, and asked repeatedly if it was the right spot, and was repeatedly told I was in the right spot and that I should continue to wait, only to find out after something like an hour that they had failed to confirm me for the appointment I was waiting for. So I waited for frickin' hour for absolutely no reason. At least in the past (long before this) there was a visible list on a screen so you knew where you were in the queue but they decided to get rid of it for the sake of aesthetics (and privacy?), only to make things less clear.

And what did his noreply Team say?

They just apologized and promised to re-evaluate their store practices, and looped in one of the managers at that specific store. So, nothing concrete from my perspective, but it was good to see that they actually directly involved the specific and appropriate people with my concerns.

BTW, I'm in Canada, and it was their US team that made the appropriate contacts in Canada.

Maybe I should have said "infamous" iconic dome. I think new store+plaza is definitely better than the dome in terms of functionality and aesthetics.

So - you will have all the homeless people sleeping across the street from you on the steps of the Art Gallery AND... and this is the best part.... Every protest takes place right across from the Apple Store now... Trump, Covid, MeToo, BLM, LBTQGSPP+2 etc etc... all the protests will be right there so if they don't accost you when you come out the homeless will since you obviously have lots of money.

I avoid going to the North Shore on Georgia just because of that area but I need to see this now...
