Why wouldn’t it? The charging won’t, which is why I’m curious about how Apple or third parties will address that. Heck even the SamrtPort could be used for this purpose. I’m sure we’ll see when the store is up again as to available accessories. But there’s no reason why the Pencil itself won’t work.
Based on their website, it only works the new iPads.

Are you able to magnetize the pencil with the keyboard folio on and closed?

Yes, because the new Smart Keyboard folio doesn't cover the edges.

Questions:
- Does it still fast charge?
- Can the Pencil be kept attached to the iPad all the time?

Still wish it had an off switch, but if the pencil can be kept attached to the iPad most of the time, that will help mitigate the battery drain issue.

Also this isn’t about the pencil, but what happened to that rumored button or sensor on the back of the iPad?

I'm sure you're allowed to keep it attached. My issue is that it likely won't stay attached, in the presence of bumps, etc.. If I put the iPad & pencil in my backpack, I'm sure the pencil will have fallen off after a moment. Sure, Apple could use super-strong magnets, but that can cause other problems (keep your credit cards and pacemakers away :).

As awesome as this is, there really needs to be a separate wireless charging stand or something.

Right that was what I meant. If the magnet is pretty strong then it might be able to stay attached even in my bag. But I guess we’ll see soon.

You’re right there does need to be a separate way to charge. Example: if someone keeps extra an pencil in their home or office.

I'll bet it'll be compatible with the Airpower mat ...
