You're not wrong. And once upon a time, I'd have snatched this up in a heartbeat, likely coming from the yellow iPhone 11 model.
But I chose to turn away from my favorite color in favor of a preferred form factor (13 mini) in red (second favorite color), and now the idea of going back up to the 6.1" model is just... ugh.
Personally, I don't get the color thing much at all with an abundance of cases in every color available, generally required to "flatten" out the back anyway, protect against drops and sometimes add more battery. If I was an iPhone buyer, I'd mostly choose on front bezel color (generally visible within case fronts) and then get any color I want for the rest in a case. If I didn't need battery, I could get one of those super slim ones in seemingly countless colors.
But I know some people like to go naked and take on full risk of drops (or pay Apple extra for some drop insurance). Besides, I think the real magic in a new color is being able to clearly convey to other fans that one has purchased that newest possible iPhone... even if the only people invested enough in such knowledge to know that is the relatively small number of fans who study Apple twists & turns almost daily.
I suspect those wishing for THIS yellow for a different new iPhone model size could jump into some searches to find a case that is this yellow that fits any iPhone they happen to have. If not, wait about 5 days and this color case for all other iPhones will pop up on Ali, then eBay, then Amazon, et all.
But hey, obviously the spring "new color" campaign must work for Apple. And those happy to go yellow, enjoy your new iPhone!
Edit: even faster than expected,
check the new yellow case for the rest of the iPhone 14s made by Apple so one can see the all-important Apple logo too. $49

vs. $800+

Of course, only the cool, "in" kids will have their camera module in yellow too.
