As a sidenote.. Porsche Racing Yellow is the only Yellow shade that can make me buy a banana phone.

The way things are going, it might soon be “buy iPhone, get a matching color Porsche for free*”

*subscription. “Free means first 2 months, after which you will automatically have $<too much> auto-withdrawn from your linked ApplePay account, continuing in perpetuity… and includes requirement to upgrade all Apple tech as it is released, else the interest rate doubles… no TRIPLES! Yeahhh, that’s the ticket. 😉

hmmm, yay? Although yellow is a nice welcome into the somewhat dreadful colors of the 14 lineup. Woud love a yellow gadget myself, although not sure if I would plow $1000 for one (that's the price of the regular iPhone 14 in my country).

Where the larger, more unruly profit for Apple lies?
You're not wrong. And once upon a time, I'd have snatched this up in a heartbeat, likely coming from the yellow iPhone 11 model.

But I chose to turn away from my favorite color in favor of a preferred form factor (13 mini) in red (second favorite color), and now the idea of going back up to the 6.1" model is just... ugh.

Interesting they released a non pro color refresh. It's almost always been pros that get the color mid cycle.

I really don’t get the point of this iPhone it’s not worth it the pro is not much more and also we are 6 months away from new phones

No surprise. Their case colors this year were horrible. Another customer in the store was frustrated with the selection while I was there and bought another brand. Thankfully they had product Red, otherwise I would've bought a 3rd party case.

I'm a little surprised as I thought yellow had been pretty consistently bad for sales on previous phones? And no new colour for the 14 Pro unlike the 13 Pro last year?

Personally, I don't get the color thing much at all with an abundance of cases in every color available, generally required to "flatten" out the back anyway, protect against drops and sometimes add more battery. If I was an iPhone buyer, I'd mostly choose on front bezel color (generally visible within case fronts) and then get any color I want for the rest in a case. If I didn't need battery, I could get one of those super slim ones in seemingly countless colors.

But I know some people like to go naked and take on full risk of drops (or pay Apple extra for some drop insurance). Besides, I think the real magic in a new color is being able to clearly convey to other fans that one has purchased that newest possible iPhone... even if the only people invested enough in such knowledge to know that is the relatively small number of fans who study Apple twists & turns almost daily.

I suspect those wishing for THIS yellow for a different new iPhone model size could jump into some searches to find a case that is this yellow that fits any iPhone they happen to have. If not, wait about 5 days and this color case for all other iPhones will pop up on Ali, then eBay, then Amazon, et all.

But hey, obviously the spring "new color" campaign must work for Apple. And those happy to go yellow, enjoy your new iPhone!

Edit: even faster than expected, check the new yellow case for the rest of the iPhone 14s made by Apple so one can see the all-important Apple logo too. $49  vs. $800+:eek::eek: Of course, only the cool, "in" kids will have their camera module in yellow too. ;)

Mass market isn't here. Most will walk into an Apple store or visit an online seller and simply pick a color. Those who need a new phone about now simply have a new color option to choose. Those able to wait 6 months can choose a slightly faster phone with a slightly better camera and USB-C. Those able to wait 18 months can choose a slightly faster, slightly faster phone with a slightly better, slightly better camera. Those willing to wait 30 months can...
