At Apple's March 2016 event today in its Cupertino headquarters, the company announced a brand new band material, woven nylon, and new band colors. The Apple Watch will also see its price dropped $50, starting at $299 for the sport version.

The new woven nylon bands come with a four-layer construction and is a part of a brand new spring lineup of Apple Watch bands. The nylon selection comes in vibrant pink, blue, orange and black. Additionally, Apple announced a selection of colors for other bands: there is now a yellow sport band, red and turquoise leather bands and a black milanese loop.

Apple did not unveil the prices of the new woven nylon bands at its event. However, the company did announce a price drop for the Apple Watch, with the aluminum version now starting at $299.

Hey, do you know that 'NyLon' means new york and London?

Cook mentioned only 1/3 of all watch customers are changing their bands. Chances are a very large percentage of those customers are women, who do tend to accessorize more than men. So this isn't surprising.
I suppose your right, Well... I guess for us gentlemen there is the 3rd party businesses for us to seek out our fashion statements!

I'd have to see these bands in person before I pass judgment. However at first look, I'm not really a fan.

FYI, Best Buy and Target have the AW starting at $249 for the sport model. I picked the rose gold sport model up for my girlfriend for her birthday yesterday.

I'm sold on the black Milanese loop.

Also glad to see the price drop even though I already have mine. The Watch right now is an accessory to the iPhone. It shouldn't cost more than the iPhone.

Why is the black Milanese loop $50 more than the silver? The black aluminum bracelet isn't $50 more than the silver.

Well, I will point out (now that the Apple Store is back up) that it's only a price drop on the low end Sport watches. The Stainless seem to be the same price as before.

Yeah, I checked to see whether the other versions would fall in line. Nope, same pricing. The price drop only applies to Sport watches.

Was wondering the same thing, was so ready to pick one up but now reconsidering. Makes no sense why it would be $50 more compared to the silver one.

It certainly costs more to add a DLC coating. Maybe the process is more difficult on the Milanese loop?

It doesn't help Apple's image either. Other than the original iPhone (which was a brand new market category for the entire cell phone industry - which the watch is not), I don't think Apple has ever dropped the price on a product less than a year old without releasing a new one to take its place.

Very telling.

It doesn't really mean anything for a first-gen product, which by the way the original iPhone was as well.

The highest chance of this happening is on the first gen products because Apple simply doesn't know where the right price will be.

In addition, the first-gen products are also always most likely to be lowest in sales as well.

The best "telling" evidence is to look at the 2nd or 3rd generation's sales when they are released. If it is not higher than before, than it is not likely to be selling well. I'm not buying Apple Watch until the 2nd generation is out first, I always get burned on the first-gen anything.

Just finished browsing the updated Apple Store (nylon bands are priced as sport bands) and getting increasingly frustrated by lack of options for black watches.
I so agree!!!! They mentioned before it is one of the best selling why not make more bands for it!

One of the biggest appeals of nylon watch bands is they often look great while being cheap compared to other options. I fail to see how Apple can justify $50 for a nylon band that probably costs them 50 cents to make.

You miss the distinction between the original iPhone and the Watch. The original iPhone was a brand new product category for an entire industry, not just a new product for Apple. Also, Apple didn't make phones before, and people weren't secure with the connection.

The Watch is totally different. They've done little else than refine a product already in an understood industry space, something about which they have significant experience with now. Apple already makes similar devices, and has become an accepted and trusted household name -- people will buy anything from Apple just because they made it, something that wasn't true when the iPhone came out.

Dropping the price less than a year after launch without offering something better sends a definite message.

It feels that this technology arrived before its time, its just too expensive for the market to accept it as a accesory, as a stand alone device its another story, $150.00 wifi, $199.99 cellular data, until then keep counting slow margins ... I guess 2018 is a good year for strategy and marketing adjustments on this little device :)

I'm interested in an Apple watch at a price point of about $99-$129. As someone who abandoned watches a long time ago, I just cannot get excited at all. That's not speaking against the array of features it has, but more that I'm completely disinterested in this category.
For me, the ceiling on the utility of it is $199. I'm not a watch wearer either but I can see the usefulness of it. Just not at $299.
