As an owner of an ipad 1, I'm disappointed in the ipad air. For such an expensive device I would've expected them to start at 32GB by now. I bought the 64gb version of the ipad 1 when it came out, and since then flash storage prices have dropped like a rock, yet they've retained the exact same price structure from 3 1/2 years ago. I will not be purchasing a new ipad until I can get a 128GB option for the same price as my original ipad in 64GB (I'd get a 256GB for $100 more though).

On top of that I'm kind of sad to see the A7 make an appearance in the ipad, instead of them fabbing up an A7X for use in the ipad. I can kind of see the mini having the A7, but not the ipad air. Disappointing that performance will probably be worse on their larger model than their phone, just feels backwards. I will say that the new ipad mini is very tempting now though, what a jump that was.

I really expected the ipad 5 to be my next ipad purchase because I strongly believed that 32GB would be the new entry option. Disappointed that I'll be waiting to see what the ipad 6 (or ipad air 2 or whatever) will be. The ipad 1 is getting really long in the tooth, and being maxed out on ios 5 is... well not great. My ipad 1 being so constrained by its 256MB of ram makes it a pain to use anymore, but I'll keep it going as long as they don't do anything about how much they're ripping off customers for flash storage space.

Well, I wonder if you're missing out with this approach.

I would recommend getting only the 16GB or the 32GB model, because with DropBox and iCloud you shouldn't need to always be carrying your all of data with you. And it's no slouch with an A7 processor from what I've read.
