Lightning connector???

I thought Apple might be moving away from those. So if everything goes USB-C, I'll still need to carry another cable?

Yes. Apple is big on Lightning for iPhone and iPhone accessory products. If you're all in on Android then you may be inconvenienced, but they do cater more for iPhone users (H1 chip, iCloud pairing, etc).

Terrible timing. Sorry, but this should have been delayed. Not the time to be releasing new products. We have a growing crisis, and it’s going to get worse.

Bad move, should have been delayed

Oh its most definitely going to get worse. Much worse.

But there is going to be millions of people around the globe, bored, stuck in their houses. Assuming the deliveries are still happening, to enable food and other deliveries, then its a great time for new products.

Perfect timing. I'll be buying a pair.

And yes the BS Wall Street is selling about lowering earnings is going to be a boon for tech stocks. Why? People don't stop shopping, and when they are couped up they shop more, especially electronics.

Amazon is hiring 100k more workers to keep up with the surge in shopping.

So, it costs $50 to cut that cord in between?
What else is different between this and the Powerbeats Pro in terms of specs?

The signal shielding that cord provides, the much larger housing for more battery life and more professional sound are two benefits. The smaller scale of the AirPods always comes with a premium price tag. You pay for that. I can buy Vocal inner ear plugs by Shure for $1k that are worth every penny [live on stage] or walk around with studio flat monitor over the ear headphone live for 50% less and look like a fool. Exaggerating example but it's to illustrate a point.

The business look of the AirPods cost you over the Sweaty athlete look of the Beats.

Guys, I don't think we're getting a product release week from Apple. This was made ahead of time, which is why MacRumors was able to produce a video for it and publish it at exactly 5:00 a.m. yesterday. They knew it was coming, but was under embargo.

Unlike the Powerbeats Pro and the AirPods, the standard Powerbeats do not have a charging case and will need to be charged using a Lightning cable.

It’d be great if they could have wireless charging. Place the earpieces right on the charging mat, and you’re all set.

By the time Lightning phases out, you’d wanna buy another wireless headphone. Lightning port will stay around for at least 2-3 years. Even then Apple will make the transition slowly. Started with 2018 iPad Pro, maybe 2021 iPhone Pros, and 2023 for all iPhones. The lower end iPads (which sell a lot) may keep using Lightning for foreseeable future. And so countless of Apple accessories.

Nothing too much to worry about.
