In another sign that the release of iOS 4.2 is imminent, 9 to 5 Mac notes that Apple has begun approving applications with support for Game Center functionality on the iPad. Big Bad Sudoku Book is one early example of a universal App Store application that is now compatible with Game Center on the iPad, which requires iOS 4.2. Multitasking support for the iPad version is also included in the application update.

What's new

- Full support for iOS4.2 including Game Center and background tasking on the iPad.
- Now supports/allows background audio - play internet radio apps, soma fm via safari, or ipod music while playing the game.

iOS 4.2 is set to bring a number of new features to the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, with the iPad seeing its first implementation of iOS 4 and features such as multitasking and home screen folders that debuted on the smaller devices earlier this year.

Yay! I do love my iPad, but when I come back from my iPhone I miss the ability to create folders or the multitasking bar. I use them more than I realised on my iPhone.

I don't know about anyone else, but me and none of my friends use Game Center. Even if I did, it's pretty damn ugly.

I've never opened it, and I don't intend to.

I don't actually play games on my iPhone or iPad

The iOS 4.2 GM release is working flawlessly on my iPad.

It's nice to finally have folders. Angry Birds is already listed in Game Center on my iPad.

I've been testing my Apps for the last couple of days and so far everything is working great. (knock on wood).

Looking forward to the general release.

Folders are my favorite and most used feature, but printing is surprisingly impressive. It's just printing, but doing it from the tiny device without the hassle of transferring files around is very pleasant.

For people that don't like the orientation switch going software, one benefit is that I find myself fine tuning the brightness more often (it's in the same quick access place) and I think it will make people more aware of the multitasking.

I've always enjoyed the GameCenter look. Even the icon. My wife doesn't like the icon, though. I guess most people don't like the classy gambling look. lol. The important part is that it's centralized and functional.
