Wow going by that, I think we might see a release tomorrow! There are lots of updates today... Have they ever released a new OS on a Friday?

Yes. From another thread.

Snow Leopard released 8/28/2009 - Friday
Leopard released 10/26/2007 - Friday
Tiger released 4/29/2005 - Friday
Panther released 10/24/2003 - Friday
Jaguar released 8/24/2002 - Saturday
Puma released 9/25/2001 - Tuesday

I think most devs are ready - they have been working with the incremental releases all along and have had the gm for some time... The bottleneck will be the appstore review process, and this seems to be moving swiftly

i think apple might want to release this either now before their earnings next tues or right after. they know what they have sold so i feel if their earnings will be good and they know it they will release before as long as all the submissions are in. if they know it might be around what people projected they might do it that day or the day after to soak up any hit they might get from it. i feel like their earnings will be pretty high looking at some reports but you never know.

i would really like tomorrow as i will be a counselor at a music camp at my college next week and wont have any time to play with lion until after.

Don't count on pass patterns. If that was the case, more likely lion would be August / September / October.

But it's coming.

(iPhone is an example of not following patterns / iOS, we didn't see the annual update model like the past)

You've got to be kidding right.

They've released most OS' on Friday.

Sorry, I'm a bit slow tonight, kidding about not knowing that apple have released OSs on Fridays in the past, or kidding about the app store approvals potentially being a sign that a release is imminent?

The GM has been released ages ago, getting apps updated in the app store seems to be a logical last step in the OS release schedule, no?

Full screen apps in Lion disappointing

I had a chance to try Lion at a friends house. He has two screens connected to his MacPro. The really annoying thing is that if you put an app into full screen mode the second screen is useless. Whatever app is displayed on the second screen is covered by a gray background image so that you have no access to that app (as long as there is an other app running in full screen mode). Also if an app window is on the second screen and you put it in full screen mode it jumps to the main screen (the screen with the menu bar) and renders the second screen unusable. So for people with two or more screens connected to their Mac this feature is basically useless.

To illustrate this, here is an example: In Snow Leopard my friend often used to play some music video in full screen mode on his second screen using QuickTime X while at the same time doing work on the main screen. In Lion, QuickTime X refuses to go into full screen mode on the second monitor, it only goes to full screen mode on the main screen, and of course the second monitor is inaccessible.

So it seems Apple made this feature useful only for single screen setups.

Mhhh sounds like a bug to me, i would suggest feeding it back to apple in a bug report...

Using the App

"Apple Approving Mac App Store Apps for OS X Lion"

Couldn't use the letters/term 'app' any more than in this sentence

Getting on the Mac App Store, I was surprised to see a new flow of Apps being represents as the new and noteworthy, As well with Final Cut Pro and other Apple Applications not being the center of attention on the stores main page.

Since everyone is speculating a release date, you can use this to help your case or break your case.

Personally I think its totally possible that it will be released sooner than later.

I've seen complaints about that since the first beta, but its never been changed. Unfortunately, Apple probably considers it a "feature".

Well o.k, thanks, but front page? We knew that there would be a push to get apps approve ahead of Lion's release over the next few days.
Of cause. It's just not Mac-Rumors if there is no 2nd page news stories put on incorrectly on the front page.

The 'full screen button' bit stood out for me.

I've wondered about how the selection would work for the average user.

a standard button on the keyboard would work well and be easy to learn.

also suggests new hardware of course but that is a given.

I dislike how "full screen apps" is listed as a feature

Why's that?

It is something different from other versions of Mac OS X, so it is in fact a new feature. It also allows for the use of a completely different UI for interacting with applications.

Point missed...

The point of full screen is focus; the removal of distractions so you can concentrate on the task at hand.

Apple just sent out an email about the current student promotion again.

OS X Lion Up-to-Date Programme. OS X Lion is coming this month, but you don't have to wait until then to get your new Mac. The OS X Lion Up-to-Date upgrade will be available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorised Reseller on or after 6 June 2011. If that was sent this morning, does that mean we're not looking at a release today?
