Skate City: New York is coming to Apple Arcade on January 9

Accessible through the App Store, Apple Arcade is a subscription-based service that provides access to hundreds of games across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro, all free of ads and in-app purchases. In the U.S., Apple Arcade costs $6.99 per month and is bundled with other Apple services in select Apple One plans.

Here is the full list of games coming to Apple Arcade through early January:

More details about some of the games are available in Apple's press release.

The JRPGs on this list were already pretty good, but Game of the Year contender Barbie Color Creations+ should seal the deal for just about anybody!

(seriously though, this is a pretty good lineup)

It's hard to communicate just how valuable Apple Arcade is as a parent. Especially now that so many of their games seem targeted towards younger kids. Having hundreds of ad-free games with no in-app purchases is such a game changer. Nearly everything works completely offline too, so it's great for road trips. Say what you want about it, but in my opinion it's one of the best things Apple has ever done.

Yes, if you have small children. Find something fun for me, I'm 58: Apple thinks we're all 10 years old

It might be if they had a filter for "in-app purchases = no."
There are many games you can play without spending any money. You can upgrade the game by simply playing it. Buying things in the game is a choice. Besides, emulators have been released, so there are plenty of games that come with them as well. As you mentioned, there’s no filter for in-app purchases, which is true. However, Apple Arcade is a subscription service that offers a wide variety of games. Most of the games on there are not very good, but Oceanhorn 2, Samurai Jack, and Sonic are the best games to me. However, I’m not willing to pay a monthly subscription of $6.99 just to play 3 games that I like on there. You may like most of the games on there, though.

There are still loads of great premium titles available for a one-off payment, from Tiny Wings to Edith Finch. If you're a little more 'serious' about gaming the iOS ports of Sonic Mania, Hades and Braid available on Netflix games are marvellous. Hades is probably the best game on mobile platforms, full stop.

Good for Apple for connecting with Square more. If you want to be believed when you say you "love gaming," you have to prioritize some of the greatest companies.

The store pages for the FF games currently read "not compatible with this device" on Sequoia.

Wasn't it an original selling point for Apple Arcade that all games were compatible with all platforms?

Mobile gaming is to gaming what Lunchables are to lunch.

I respect your opinion here and there is no one "right" way to parent (lord knows I get it wrong enough), but I took an alternate pathway with my daughter: Instead of giving her simplistic mobile games to play, we engaged gaming together, selectively, choosing longer-form and more complex titles on Switch, XBox, or PC, and charting a path through them together, helping her reason through challenges and providing guidance away from inappropriate titles. It became time we spent together instead of an electronic babysitter. Now, she's old enough to make her own gaming decisions (mostly) and I marvel at her ability to speed-run games and solve complex gaming challenges. She has an iPhone, but uses it to text her friends and work through Duolingo lessons and not much else. She has zero interest in App Store games.

Yes, Apple Arcade can be a welcome respite from the worthless IAP-laden cesspool that is much of mobile gaming, and for that reason alone I can see it being valuable to families. But it doesn't address the greater problem of mobile gaming that likely will never be solved as long as we have such low standards.

Apple abandoned that requirement for AA titles about six months in. Developers balked.

I wish I had more time for rpgs but the FFIV, FFIV After Years, and Trials of Mana are all good games.
Twice I got about halfway through FFIV and had my save data deleted (once by data corruption, once by being overwritten by a family member). I was so frustrated that I haven’t played it since, but this will finally eliminate my excuse for not beating it.

The pixel remaster would have been great, but I won’t complain about the 3DS version for free! It is a true classic with some killer music (which is even better in the pixel remaster).

I have enjoyed last two free trials of Apple Arcade, much better than in the past. Keep adding Apple, a clean experience with out IAP and other crap.
