Note the modifier "an arcade edition of Civilization VII..." It's a cut-down, mobile-oriented version.
You sure they aren't just saying it's a version that's exclusive to the Apple Arcade at the moment? That's what I took it to mean and yes that makes it very confusing as you've also implied it reads like a cut down 'lite' version of Civ 7 but reviews appear to suggest it's not the best instalment of the Civ series.

I'd be looking to see if they introduce multiplayer later down the line - they imply not at launch but maybe later.

In any case, it's a positive move by Apple that they appear to have done a deal to get Civ into Apple Arcade - so they have to be applauded for that.

Please note that Civilization VII for Apple Arcade will not support multiplayer at launch, and will not receive any DLC seen in Civilization VII on other platforms. Post-launch updates that apply to other platforms may be excluded or delayed for Civilization VII on Apple Arcade.

So a paid glorified demo that is. Still great addition, not gonna pay full price for Civ 7 at current state (without expansion packs) . I have just only bought Civ 6.

Retrocade! Finally something I'm interested in. I get Apple Arcade with my One subscription, and I have played many games. But not in months. I rarely even think about it because month after month it's games for toddlers.

I hope Retrocade is only the beginning. I'd love to see the classic Williams games come back - Defender, Stargate, Joust, Robotron and Sinistar.

RetroArch in app store if you must retro game on AppleTV, free.

Will try out 'I love hue too+'. Overall not impressed by the additions to Arcade. Not worth subscribing with the current catalog.

Getting a 'real' game like Civ 7 is nice. (Comments on quality of Civ 7 aside...)
There are so many great games on Apple Arcade, indie ok but great games which deserve the title of "real game".

Yeah I saw this announcement elsewhere but the Apple Arcade requirement wasn’t part of that announcement. So bummed; was looking forward to asteroids and space invaders.
Yeah…have to subscribe to access. No stand-alone. I have an old CD with the old games on it, but it is Microsoft. Would have like to access them also on the Mac. Need a big screen to play some like Astroids.

Oh well…

Emulation.

This might be up your alley.

For arcade games, look into MAME.

I was Galaxian world champion.
Could finish all 300 levels of Breakout in a day, with just 3 lives.
Fond memories.
Wo…

That was my favorite game back in the day. ❤️

What happens when you finish all levels? Did not have enough quarters to get that far…(a kid with no money in those days) 🤣

And, Retrocade has no Apple TV support. 😒

Hopefully, it has 3rd party controller support (and not just on screen controls). My Backbone is ready!

You want RetroArch for AppleTV (and iPhone for that matter).
