While I can't disagree with the "read a book" part, there are definitely some worthy games out there.
It got asked often enough that I ended up curating a list of premium games for mobile. This embedded link in this link has a list to Android games, while the top level shows differences between iOS and Android....
Some really nice puzzle games, strategy, and some that are "board game like". All very engaging! Those games won't be able to match the potential of video games on PC, nor Switch, but for phone games that are very affordable, can be played on the go (as I often have my phone on me), and very well suited for bite-sized sessions, it's great!
While it does its duty of providing games with no IAP nor ads, the selection and overall contents are, relatively lackluster. IIRC, AA originally had some AAA and otherwise large studios lined up, but many ended up bailing. I think one issue is they're not incentivized to make games for AA when they can make FAAR more $$ on the regular mobile markets, making $$ hand over fist on IAP (many of them devolving into that "predatory p2w nonsense"). Even "playing it straight", it seems they make much more money elsewhere. A bonus, they have more control over things like what's allowed (I heard that games on AA can't have a maturity rating higher than 9+ for one).
When I was on my 4-month free trial, I had a blast with some games such as Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, SP!NG, Lumens+, and Frogger And The Rumbling Ruins. However, I ended up getting regular iOS games, and games on Android, and those were enough to fill the time, without dealing with another subscription. Being gifted a Switch further sealed the deal.
Compared to the competition...
By comparison, Game Pass is $20/mo, and people happily pay for that to get full, console/PC games.
Nintendo Switch Online is $20/yr or $50/yr (that's not a typo... that's per
year, not month) to get their backlog of games through emulation. Latter also includes n64, Genesis, and GBA (although mind you, quite a few titles are missing)
Hard pressed to compete really :\
