This is why I am still not on MAC, Apple is severly lacking in the Leisure: Games department and while they are trying to catch up with METAL 3, they are still beyond ; though I do hope the two most recent key notes, where they showed games working for and on a MAC is a sign that Apple now wants a bite out of these sales, too.

Honestly, just barely getting started. It's definitely a classic Bethesda RPG. "Skyrim in space" is not entirely accurate, but it's not wrong, either. I need to explore a lot more and see if the reports that it's far more polished than the usual quirky-jerky Bethesda game is.

Unfortunately, they just added a Husky Raid playlist to Halo Infinite, and that sort of mega-ultra-sweaty competitive chaos is total gaming crack to me. So I don't know how much time I'll invest in SF for the time being. Nice to have choices, though!
Thanks for your reply. I will definitely check it out, and I heard it will be included with the Game Pass which is nice. All my gaming time is currently dedicated to Diablo IV, so exploring the depths of space sounds like an exciting change of pace!

Despite Apple One and endless free subscriptions to Arcade (after I canceled Apple One) because I bought some hardware, I have never even opened it. Phone games (and phone games played on a Mac) are garbage and adult pacifiers. Read a book.
I am glad there are people telling me what I should do with my spare time.
Oh, I also enjoy reading people making fun of opther people’s preferred activitie…

Now let me get back to my “adult pacifier”, so i can show how much I care about what other think.

The funny part is that you speak of adult pacifiers then act like a 3 years old mocking what other people might like.

People are free to express their opinion, but making ti sound like it’s the “truth”is another story ;)
Enjoy your book, i will enjoy both my book AND my little games, no need to pick ;)

Used to use gamepass but buying a game or two a year is actually cheaper and tbh i dont want to play infinite random games anyway.

As for apple thankgod for cross platform games (shame on blizzard for not releasing current games on mac)

As for Apple Arcade its cheaper to just buy some of the few actual quality mobile games of which many are just ports

It’s a proven fact that puzzles help with your memory. Sometimes a quick game while working is a good way to just to clear your mind also. I also read a lot. But way to judge people when you don’t know them.

If you’re not an avid gamer (I’m not), then Apple Arcade is plenty and good enough. A colleague just gifted me an Xbox console for my birthday and I don’t know what to do with it. My smart tv has a game mode, then my Apple TVeith Arcade, and now a console. My work life is busy with barely enough time to watch movies and series. I’ve cancelled all streaming services except Apple TV+. I dislike duplication and too much around me.

I know its fashionable to get all offended but try not to take things personally. I didn't even know you existed until you replied. The Arcade bashing is my opinion. Respect it. The "read a book" comment was tongue in cheek. :D

Needs more multiplayer on a single TV/console games (local multiplayer).
Got Arcade over the summer to play/bond with my kids.
Other than some driving games, there were very few offerings.
Super jazzed to play the king of the hill kart game (whatever it’s called). Only to find out that you can only race others via network.
Yeah just this weekend my nephews were trying to set up some multiplayer games on my Apple TV and they required network play instead of co-op on the screen. We ended up playing Switch instead.

I know its fashionable to get all offended.
Again with the idea that I care about what another person think it’s cool or not.
Fashinable? I do not follow fashion, I express what I feel, even if it’s not a popular opinion.
Offended? Since when did I get offended for another person point of view? I am not 3 anymore, I grew a pair and use my own mind.

I respect other people point of view and not make fun of them when I disagree, there is a lot you can learn if you agree to disagree.
You should rely less on what other people think is cool and what isn’t ;)

Yeah. A vast difference on Apple Arcade compared to what's on for example Xbox Gamepass. But the games on Xbox Gamepass doesn't run on phones. Many games on Apple Arcade also run on Macs, but the majority is definitely mobile (i.e. iPad and iPhone) first. So many times they feel a bit off on the Mac. Not all, but many.

One gripe I have with Apple Arcade is with performance. I get hiccups on an Apple TV 4k (1st gen) at times on a 1080p TV wen playing Jetpack Joyride 2. Sveral games on the Mac runs choppier than they should even on the 38 graphics core M2 Max I have from work. Again, not all, but several. Also on several games the macOS mouse pointer remains visible while playing games where it should be hidden so it has to manually be tucked aside. So while there are some exceptions where I don't have any complaints on the Mac version, things could definitely be better.
I remember playing the Sonic Racing game and when I went into a curve, the game literally turned into a slide show going through the curve one photo at a time. LOL!!!

I am still in the middle of playing Wylde Flowers. So much more engaging than Animal Crossing. I almost can’t believe it’s „free“
Wylde Flowers is so underrated! it's like a mix of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley and it has really cute dialogues and they're even recorded! I love the game so much after playing it on my iphone for some time I even got it on the switch when it was on sale lol. for the record the switch has a bigger screen than my phone and that's why.. 🙃

Yes I love how you don’t just have to read subtitles without any voices! And it’s actually really well acted

I heard it was more like "Fallout in space". However, can't comment further as I never played any of those games (Skyrim, Fallout, nor Starfield).

Apple needs to acquire a major publisher like EA to be relevant in game industry. Honestly, they should’ve gone after Blizzard.
Throwing $$ at the problem helps, but the other issue is Apple just doesn't and can't seem to get into "that gaming mindset". AA was supposed to be just the ticket, but it ended up doing "just OK".

Also if they were to get Blizzard, hopefully they can add more content to StarCraft 2's Coop mode.

While I can't disagree with the "read a book" part, there are definitely some worthy games out there.

It got asked often enough that I ended up curating a list of premium games for mobile. This embedded link in this link has a list to Android games, while the top level shows differences between iOS and Android....

Some really nice puzzle games, strategy, and some that are "board game like". All very engaging! Those games won't be able to match the potential of video games on PC, nor Switch, but for phone games that are very affordable, can be played on the go (as I often have my phone on me), and very well suited for bite-sized sessions, it's great!

I wonder why Arcade is as inexpensive as it is?
While it does its duty of providing games with no IAP nor ads, the selection and overall contents are, relatively lackluster. IIRC, AA originally had some AAA and otherwise large studios lined up, but many ended up bailing. I think one issue is they're not incentivized to make games for AA when they can make FAAR more $$ on the regular mobile markets, making $$ hand over fist on IAP (many of them devolving into that "predatory p2w nonsense"). Even "playing it straight", it seems they make much more money elsewhere. A bonus, they have more control over things like what's allowed (I heard that games on AA can't have a maturity rating higher than 9+ for one).

When I was on my 4-month free trial, I had a blast with some games such as Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, SP!NG, Lumens+, and Frogger And The Rumbling Ruins. However, I ended up getting regular iOS games, and games on Android, and those were enough to fill the time, without dealing with another subscription. Being gifted a Switch further sealed the deal.

Compared to the competition...
By comparison, Game Pass is $20/mo, and people happily pay for that to get full, console/PC games.
Nintendo Switch Online is $20/yr or $50/yr (that's not a typo... that's per year, not month) to get their backlog of games through emulation. Latter also includes n64, Genesis, and GBA (although mind you, quite a few titles are missing)
Hard pressed to compete really :\

I was talking about Arcade and its games. GeoDefense and Lost Cities are good one time purchases. I keep those on my devices.

I'd like to point out that that game also has a very well made Mac version which runs smoothly without hiccups (I think even at 120 Hz on a Mac and display that supports it) and the mouse/trackpad arrow pointer is hidden when appropriate.

If you pay for a year, Apple Arcade is $50. It's not the end all be all, but I have had a lot of fun with it since April.
People crap on Nintendo Switch Online constantly because Nintendo drip feeds games to the service.
For me Steam and Apple Arcade will do for now.

Well, if you're going to go annual on AA, I'd recommend getting it at Costco (or Costco.com). They sell annual subs for $45/yr.

EDIT: My comments on NSO...
The only thing I'd like about NSO is being able to create backup save data of your game progress. I don't play on multiple Switches to want to sync progress between those such devices. I grew up on NES, GB, and SNES games. While they were a blast, I don't have much reason to go back to them (perhaps save for a few, choice games). Less so with GBA, n64, and Genesis games. I'd rather move on to new, and more recent games (one main reason I was glad to have a current gen console of theirs). I have yet to touch Turbo Grfx 16 FWIW. Another neat thing is I hear with those emulated games, they do have save states and rewind feature! However, pass (for now at least) since time's always the bottleneck!
