Hi have a Series 10, I also have a Garmin Fenix 8 and an Oura.

Some of the newly announced features require a Series 12.

Step counter complication

HRV
Recovery

Apparently all using AI, need a new sensor. The Garmin doesn't use AI and does all of this, so I feel all of this is possible.

Apple have used the AI excuse to push everyone to upgrade. Seriously? It took to the Series 12 to get a step counter complication?

What does everyone feel?

I feel there are ways around it using 3rd party apps. I will be sticking with my Ultra 1 for another 2 years.

While I'd agree with some of the features, others are dependent on the new sensor array. If the features are linked to new hardware, there is little that can be done.

"Force"? They are trying to incentivize you, if you feel "forced" their marketing is working (too) well. Your old watch will not suddenly stop doing what it always did.

That’s one example. Not incentivising at all. They are purposely restricting things that can run on the current hardware and using AI as the reason to upgrade.

I can get all this with 3rd party apps on my AWU3. These metrics aren't that important to me.

Apple had to offer incentives for people to get the AWU4 - and imo these aren't strong incentives, lol. I'm upgrading to the AWU4 because I am a big fan of the Ultra and I want the better battery life, more ram, and a stronger chip - trade in also makes it only $369 for me to upgrade.

AI just makes these more "accurate" because it has more data to play with - Apple Health data. It's going to get better with time. IMO it's still in the infancy (is it really worth it?) stage right now.

It is funny, in a sense ... there's a new watch with double the RAM, upgraded CPU (A20 derived) new sensors and yet people think that all new features should just work on existing HW...
