With these Authorized Repair Centers being closed anyway more and more just to bring people into Apple strores... is this gonna be a waste eventually?

It may be ok now... but we have also seen closures as well of Repair Centers

There are still markets where Apple is present, but no official Apple stores.
Also, there are smaller tier cities that might not have nearby Apple stores. The authorized repair center network is still quite important.

That just means Apple must have made some serious bucks off them by finally accepting others to repair their precious devices.

They are only doing this because they need them. They couldn't care less about the people that work at those centers.
It's just Cook being the greedy person he is, as always.

😁

EDIT: TO ALL DISLIKERS OUT THERE! YOU DO REALIZE I WAS BEING SARCASTIC? SMILEY FACE IN THERE? ANYONE?

I was about to say "That didn't take long" but then I read your edit part, and it is easy to take your comment as such. But reading it again, I can see your sarcasm.

Seems to be a nice gesture on the surface, but I can't shake the feeling that they're only doing this out of necessity. They can't handle all the repairs on their own at the moment so all of a sudden 3rd party repair services become important. Usually Apple isn't so forthcoming when it comes to their authorised resellers and repair shops.

Well, the entire reseller network mainly exists "out of necessity".

I don't know if I'd go with "necessity", though. They're interested in having satisfied customers, and that includes being able to serve them in places where they don't operate their own stores.

I have a client whose iMac won't power on. We have no Apple Store open here (El Paso, TX) nor are there any authorized repair centers; closest is a six hour drive in Tucson. Apple won't send anyone to her house to effect the repair nor will they set up a pickup to send it off to a repair center. They won't swap her non-functioning machine for a new one (even though this one is six months old and covered by AppleCare). Essentially Apple has told her to pound sand until they re-open the Apple Store locally. When will that be? It's been about a month so far. Apparently, no one at Apple understands customer service nor initiative any more. Can you imagine buying AppleCare and Apple flipping you the bird? That's what happened here. eMailed Tim Cook...twice. No reply.

Want some cheese with that whine?

What's wrong with the Best Buy Authorized Apple repair store at 815 Sunland Park Dr? They can schedule it in today...

in 22 years of IT and mobile repair i can honestly say ive never one single time seen anyone wear a wrist strap except for in classes when we were training. Mac Rumors might want to consider some new stock photos lol

It is but this just appears to be aimed at their business interests rather than the community. Still, they didn't need to do it so can't complain.

Since Apple products are used all over the world, Apple needs to jump in and save everyone, and provide PPEs and hand sanitizers and soap to everyone?

What kind of mindless drivel is that?!

Nobody anywhere has suggested that that should be the case.
