If I'm not mistaken, you will have a set schedule for a certain period of time and then it will change. They won't just arbitrarily change your schedule on a whim.

Yeah I understand that. However having a revolving shift every few months can be tough on future scheduling.
As I said before, biggest problem for me would be having to work some kind of mid-shift where I'm unable to help the kid with potential homework, feeding, getting ready for bed, etc etc.
However, if you can get away from your desk for a few minutes here and there, it might not be so bad ... especially if you can manage scheduled breaks for doing your family duties.
Guess this is just something I'll have to figure out if/when I get the ball rolling.
On an update: still have not received my initial reply. Decided to go ahead and apply for the Cleveland, Oh position as well (even though I live about 109 miles away).

Still see this job position has a great opportunity. Getting paid a decent wage while working for one of the world's leading IT companies is pretty hard to pass up for someone who is slowly draining the last of their unemployment.

Does it have to be an old analog line or can it be a digital phone line? Analog lines are becoming ridiculously expensive compared to what is offered digitally.

It must be a land line. It can be traditional copper (AT&T, etc.) or VoIP based from a cable company like COX or Comcast.
You cannot use Vonage, Skype or anything else Internet-based that does not give you a physical jack to plug into with a phone number that can accept incoming calls.

I got to team manager interview and I was well prepared and I had nothing I couldnt answer during the interview.
I have been working in customer service environment ever since I finished my school 6 years ago, and I am now working as escalation support specialist for an apple competitor corporation, and AHA position was offering a lot lower than what I am getting paid now but I still told them it wont be a problem.
I really dont care how much I get paid, and just wanted to join Apple.. I will re-apply again if this position gets offered but I am worried like what I can do to prepair...🙁

I specifically asked my recruiter about the phone line (I have vonage right now). She said NO to digital phone lines. She said only a "hardwired analog line". Multiple people have said digital is fine, on this board and others.. but I'm going with what the recruiter said. I don't want to be unprepared and then have to wait again for an analog line to be installed.

Quick Question from a future class mate
First off thanks guys for all the info been a life saver because of the sleepless nights waiting for the call that we all have wanted to get.... I 😀 Have gotten my call and offer email and I have my paper work session.... But I am wondering how long before paper work session does it take to get the "shiny packet"? My paper work date is just a very few days away and I have not gotten my shiny folder via Fedex. Just wondering how long after the email do you get your folder...or how close to the paper work session do they ship said cool folder via Fedex.....

How long did it take you to get your first reply after applying? I'm still waiting and it seems it can be anywhere from the next day to a week and a half.
Just hoping I get that initial reply, as I think I'll have a shot once they begin the questioning. Really hoping my IT resume doesn't cause them to overlook me all together.
So I wait ... for that precious first reply, while dealing with a friggin 6mm kidney stone. 🙁

Hello all, I've scanned this thread from time to time after applying but haven't posted yet. I have my offer letter in hand now, I start training as a part-time AHA on 11/12.
One thing that really helped me elsewhere in this thread was reading about the process and timeframes. Here's how it broke down for me:
9/7 - filled out on-line application and provided resume
9/21 - received email "questionnaire" & replied
9/24 - recruiter called, short conversation, set up FaceTime interview for 9/25
9/25 - FaceTime interview with recruiter, at the end of which she told me to expect to be contacted about a "tech" interview and that I was being considered for a class beginning 11/7/2012
9/25 - received email link to set up tech interview via online scheduler (sched for 10/1)
10/1 - "technical" FaceTime interview. At end of interview was told to expect word in "3-5 business days".
10/1 - email from HireRight for background check info (HireRight had done my check for my last job a year ago as well)
10/2 - email from HireRight saying all my information was received and check was proceeding
10/3 through 10/22 - nineteen LONG days - Nothing, not even the soothing sound of crickets chirping. I emailed a couple of gentle inquiries to the contacts I had (I did not have anyone's phone number) but no response.
10/23 - Call from recruiter offering me the job, with a start date of 11/12 (the 11/7 class was "full"). Emailed offer to follow.
10/25 - Email offer received & replied to.
Based on what I'd read here, I took the fact that I hadn't gotten a rejection email as encouraging news. I also figured if Apple was paying HireRight for a background check, they were serious about hiring me. Generally I'm not a panicky person, but as the days stretched to weeks I contemplated becoming one 😱
I guess the take-away for anyone else applying is - the old maxim is right, "No news is good news". Hang in there 🙂

Tell me about it. For the last 2 years I've felt like a friggin Pez dispenser for kidney stones. Unfortunately this is the largest one I've ever had and I might not be able to pass it without surgery given the size.
Kidney stones are horrendous. Horrible ... HORRIBLE pain.
Congrats and I agree about all of the info and support from this site. I too must thank Koolaide-drinker for sound advice and reassurance. FINALLY got my offer email today!! The letter was originally dated Oct. 17th but I had to contact HR recruiting manger to let him know I had not yet received it even though I was told to expect it over a week ago so I guess it was a good thing that I emailed him. Just excited to finally get something in writing and now looking forward to getting my 'shiny folder'!
You don't have an open schedule. You have a set schedule. You can work 5 x 8's or 4 x 10's. Your shift start and stop times will be set for at least 3 months at a time, and then you will have the chance to bid for a different shift. What they mean when they say you must be available between 7am and 10:30 pm cst means your shift will fall in that window.

Now I feel like huuuge weight has lifted off from my chest😉
It was funny when my recruiter said "whoot whoot!" before I said😀
Now I am waiting for official email from them.
I am on my way to set up land-line phone and setting up office environment🙂
Yes, I agree, no news is good news! because according to previous posts, as long as you do not receive rejection email, you still have hope to get hired.
