Apple automatically deletes apps?

So I have had a slew of various appstore apps installed on my iphone...The phone was registered to my sisters itunes account (because I never pay for music...dont have a credit card) and she has since moved away, changed her password. Anyways, today I install something in cydia and come back to find that EVERY legit 3rd party app has autodeleted itself...Does apple do this? What exactly happened?

I've not heard of the apps auto-deleting. The way the music DRM works is that if your computer is not authorized for the account, it won't transfer the tracks to your device, or play them from your computer.

Perhaps they took that one step further. Are the apps still in your iTunes?

If so, maybe your sister is willing to share the new password with you. If so, that should fix it.

Otherwise, you may need to create your own account and download the apps again. If you're either unwilling or unable to get your own credit card to do so, you have a couple of options.

You can get a bank account with a debit card and use that, or you can buy a pre-paid credit card. If you don't know where to buy them, you can get them from most convenience stores.

yeah im working on getting a password. I omitted the fact that I have failed to type in her password numerous times...maybe there is a limit on it? So far my solution has just been something im not supposed to talk about...works pretty well but last.fm is on neither of the repositories...Still think its kindof whack that it took my apps away from me

Last.fm wouldn't be there, because it is a free app. By the way, you're not supposed to talk about that here.

I'm not even sure that we're allowed to mention it by name!

I don't think Apple is deleting anything on you...

I think this is a pretty well known Cydia / Jailbreak / jailbreak app bug, although at the moment, I'm having trouble finding the fix.

IIRC, your apps aren't actually gone at all -- i.e. you can look at the space occupied by apps on your iPhone and it should still report the space being used up. The issue is that the apps failed to be initialized into the Springboard, I think.

Let me see if I can find you a thread on the bug and fix.

it just occured to me that both of those apps are regional, meaning that they are only available in certain countries. That is probably why you were able to find a listing for Pandora. In that case, I'm surprised that Last.fm isn't there as well.

This makes sense as after I reinstalled pandora I didnt even have to log in...the data was already there and my stations were already loaded....I would love to see documentation though :)

    This is dandy but...

Im running 2.2 and the file that he is saying to edit....doesn't exist. Does this mean this "fix" isnt an option for 3g users?

If you have not already installed either Boss Prefs, or Poof, do so and try to show the apps again using that.

I haven't seen firmware 2.2, so I don't have any idea -- sorry. As mentioned above, see if BossPrefs and/or Poof can solve the problem for you.
