Does anyone here actually pay for a subscription? ATV+ has be free with item purchase or free with trials or free with other services. Who would need to pay? US perspective. Things may be different outside of 'Merica.

Ummm, everyone who doesn’t belong to one of the three categories you listed. Was that a trick question?

As I did not purchase any device last year I had only gotten the 7day trial. But with getting the new phone this week I got the year free.

Cool. With that credit I’ll buy a few movies I wanted from the store.

The TV app needs a wish list and bookmark page with news updates like Steam has. Will let customers know when there are special offers or when films are updated with new features.

I have not paid for it since Apple TV+ launched, due to always buying new devices.

I just bought the iPhone 12 Pro Max (Pacific Blue) so I should be set for another year, if they are still doing that?

What happens after February?

You can't stack 2 year long trials.

Greedy Apple giving away money? Hmmm... Sounds like they’re desperate. I’d be too if I had wasted millions of dollars in a lackluster service that is flopping. I wish Apple TV+ wouldn’t flop and I hope Foundation pushes it up but in the world of Netflix and Disney+ I think Apple TV+ is poised to flop unless Apple acquires a major studio.
Let’s think for a minute that it’s desperation, a trillion+ $ company spent millions on a service... that’s like saying, you got $100Million and spent $1000 on some unfruitful endeavor/trip/restaurant. Really, desperation? And I don’t think I even got the orders of magnitude close to what it actually is (plus at Apple’s orders is even crazier).

Now, contrast that to Apple giving money BACK to costumers to Netflix: when I started it was $6.99... recently received a “it’s gonna be more expensive $15.99+” email.

Being more reasonable: AppleTV was unappealing to me (I think it’s because of the titles names used or all the things around that I’m prejudiced against like Oprah being everywhere and Apple having a hint of PC) until decided to give it a try just because it was free, started with For Mankind, it didn’t hook me as much (yet) but gave me the taste of how insane quality it all is... so tried Ted Lasso (binged it), Servant (binged it), Morning Show (binged it, this one deserves a try even if it has some cringe moments). This service only has top notch quality, people just have to start one and give it a fair try, while it’s free.

Of all the services it’s hands down the best image quality stream wise, sound quality wise, responsiveness, navigation, etc.
Haven’t watched a TV+ episode with the AirPodsPro yet but did watch the latest Apple event on AppleTV app and it did fool me several times, I took them off a couple of times because I thought they had gone off because the sound was just... hard to explain... “there in the room and not in my ears”. Will try that with a tv show.

EDIT: previous post above reminded me, Finding Jacob (binged it too), Greyhound (heck yeah).

I've almost suggested they should get MGM and make new Stargate shows, but then remembered it's 2020 and it would flop like Star Wars and Star Trek in the hands of untalented "creatives" pushing their narratives.

I got a full refund of my $99 Apple Music subscription after signing up for Apple One. I had 6 months left In my annual plan.

I bought two MacBooks on the 4th July. One was for my wife, and was not opened until the 30th July. It was then activated on the 1st August as we went away for two days. On the 27th October, tried to start the year free trial and were only offered 7 days. After contacting Apple support, I was told the 3 months (actually 90 days) starts from the day of purchase, and that I could not have the offer as that time had passed. I told them that according to both their website, and the terms and conditions (which ironically they sent me and asked me to read) it says from the day of ACTIVATION/setup not purchase, and they are not the same date. I bought them on Apple.com on the 4th, they were not even delivered until the 9th. Long story short, he spoke to his manager who contacts me and refereed it to another team blah blah and the final answer was according to them the date the computer was setup was out of the time limit (they would not tell me when) and the answer was a firm “no”. Very surprised by their attitude. Will probably still get the new one subscription anyway as I am currently paying both iCloud and Music.
Very much agreed. I hope they focus on super quality content. I was impressed with the shows I binged, servant and long way up. Then Tehran and Ted Losso. Defending jacob, tiny. The quality is top notch so I hope they keep this up and not water it down like Netflix has.

I mean, it in their best interest to have people watching it over the holidays. Family sits down and you all watch an episode of See. Those without Apple TV Plus go home and they want to watch the next episode so they sign up. Or maybe it’s final justification they need to get that new device.

Take this as a sign there isn't going to be much new content over the next three months. The timing is about right for the covid shutdowns in the spring and early summer to start manifesting as an episode shortage starting around now.

What a nightmare for the Accounting department.
In what way?
I'm pretty sure apple can handle something like this.
But you can stop finding jacob after 3 episodes. The mystery is better than knowing about the stupid ending.
The ending was not the best, sure. but I pretty thoroughly enjoyed the series. And the penultimate episode was terrific. You're missing out if you stop after episode 3.

Very possible, I could be very wrong.

It's true. I have 1 yr Apple TV+ free from my MacBook Pro which runs out in Feb 202. My new iPhone 12 Pro only entitles me too a 3 mos trial of Apple Arcade. Once and done per Apple subscriber ID.

I’m really loving tv+. It’s officially gotten away from me with new content showing up faster than I can consume it. I cancelled Netflix and had been planning on watching everything on tv+ then resubscribing to Netflix when I was done but I don’t foresee that happening.

Just finished watching the old seasons of Long Way Round/Down and now finishing up Long Way Up. Documentaries, the primary reason I kept Netflix around outside of Stranger Things, are now showing up on tv+ at a steady clip.

I still subscribe to Disney+ to catch up on Marvel movies and Mandalorian but other than that, tv+ is now my primary source of TV content. It’s only going to get better as season 2 of the first wave of series start dropping. Meanwhile, other long awaited shows like Foundation are coming in as well.

Really impressed with Apple’s offerings and the potential this holds for the future.

Meh, the shows I've seen thus far were pretty unremarkable, really soulless, corporate but technically proficient.

Only "Defending Jacob" has kept me for more than an episode or two, and I'll probably finish the whole show.

Also, torrent+VPN is way more convenient and also cheaper than streaming.

Free here in Europe (1 year with an apple product purchase). I haven’t used it once. I have it since April...

"Free" is the only price at which AppleTV+ makes sense. They have a tiny amount of programming, most of it woefully out of touch with the market (Sesame Street?, Peanuts?, Tom Hanks?). It's like someone at Apple just woke up from a 30-year hibernation and thought "Gee, people should love this stuff! It's all so popular!"

I'm currently on a free 12-month subscription that came with an iPad purchase. So far I'm very underwhelmed with Apple TV+, with 'Greyhound' and 'See' being the only shows of interest in their very limited content lineup. I suspect that the reason Apple is handing out credits to people who actually for ATV+ is because they know they aren't delivering a worthwhile service at this stage and are trying to prevent those people from canceling their subscriptions.

Sorry, but I actually side with Apple here.
it’s from the time of purchase. The second that that MacBook was delivered, it goes from there. Especially if you got AppleCare for it. The AppleCare gets activated the second that it’s delivered, not the second that you open it and start using it.
if the free trial and AppleCare only started when you activated the MacBook, that would be so easy to hack. you could just put your Mac into recovery mode every couple months, erase the internal hard drive, and reinstall the operating system, and get an extra couple months of free Apple TV+. That’s not how that works.
The only time that I would see this being a problem is if you bought someone a Christmas gift a few months early, and they didn’t open it until Christmas.
but my main question is, why on earth did you buy a MacBook on July 4, and not open it until August 1? that’s literally one of the stupidest things you could ever do. That MacBook could’ve been defective. It could’ve came broken. their could’ve been an assortment of problems, and you would’ve been out of the 14 day return window.
people, unless you’re buying a gift for someone that has to be opened on a certain day, please don’t wait to open your new electronics until they can’t be returned. Open them the day that they deliver, and make sure that everything is working perfectly. And activate everything on the day that it’s delivered, so you don’t miss out on free trials, warranty programs, and important security and software updates.
i’ve heard of horror stories of people getting broken electronics. Someone I know got a Google pixel three with no operating system on it. Another person got an Apple Watch with a broken screen. another person got a HomePod that came bricked.
Please don’t be stupid.
and if you’re buying an expensive computer or electronic device for someone as a gift, make sure that you give them the receipt, or any info relating to the device just in case it’s defective when they open it.
