Apple has begun manufacturing the iPhone 14 in India, the company has confirmed in a statement, with locally made models expected to be sold later this year.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple said it is "excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India," just a few weeks after its launch. In the past, India has served as the production hub for older-generation iPhone models, while its production of newer models has only begun several months after they have been globally launched.

Apple and its leading supplier Foxconn have upped their investment in India over the last several years by training staff and opening new facilities. According to analysts, Apple plans to produce 25% of all iPhones in India by 2025, with other products such as the iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods set to follow.

Correction: Foxconn does.
Apple doesn't make their own iPhones. Thus to have iPhones made is whatever country, it depends if Foxconn can/will open up factories there or not. So I find statements that said Apple "manufactures" stuff somewhere to be hilarious. That's like saying you "cooked" dinner while in reality you just ordered a take-out.

Apple is not Samsung. Samsung actually have their own factories.

China manufactures like 90% of the things on this planet. I think we understand what's being said.

It's a bit different. I would put it more in line with hiring a cook to make a meal specifically from your own recipe. The take-out analogy makes it sound like they ordered someone else's product and put their own name on it.

Just like other companies who sell in India these are just parts sent to the factory for final assembly. Even Jaguar Landrover does this, cars are 90% assembled in the U.K., seats and other final components are bagged and placed in the car Then final assembly is done in India so that they can say, made in India to get around the trade laws.

Apple is by far Foxconn's biggest client. They have been manufacturing for Apple since the early 90s. Probably only Apple has the leverage to ask them to open a factory in another country and have them actually consider it.

"Samsung" isn't actually one business, it's a brand licensed to a bunch of people mostly associated with one family. The "Samsung" division operating pick and place machines is not the same one that designs the mobiles. They are almost as separate as Apple and Foxconn!

iPhones are too expensive for millions and millions of India’s mobile users. The Apple phones (at least 14’s) are for export.
Most probably for domestic sales first as India has strict import laws that has probably been cutting out Apple's profit. Everybody else like Xiaomi and Samsung have their own factories in India already for a while.

Regardless, somebody else cooked it, not you. Saying that you cooked the dinner even if you gave them your recipe is misleading.

Samsung manufactures their own phones, that's correct. Apple doesn't. The fact that "tech journalists" keep using the term manufacture as the same for Samsung and Apple have created the illusion that Apple somehow have Apple factories in those countries, while in reality they don't.

It just annoys me.

It's not about the country, it's about who's manufacturing the phones. Many people still think it's Apple themselves making those phones, while it's not. Just look at the comments here.

Samsung has their own Samsung factories making phones in India. The statement of Samsung manufactures phones in India is thus correct. Does Apple have Apple factories in India? No. Foxconn does. The title should've been Foxconn begins manufacturing iphone 14 in India.

It's my pet peeves.

Most of Samsung's phones are manufactured in Vietnam, with the remaining being in India, Brazil, South Korea, and Indonesia. I get what you are saying, but regardless of where the phone is "made" ... in Apple's case ... they are made to spec. Your example of ordering take out instead of making dinner makes no sense. They're not ordering someone else's food. The manufacturing has to follow very, very specific and immaculate guidelines, and FOXCONN is one of the few companies capable of meeting their demands. I don't agree with Apple's business dealings with China as a whole. That is one area Samsung can greatly be praised is for pulling entirely out of China. It severely hurt their presence in China, but they couldn't care less.

You should be more concerned with what country is making the phones than if the company is manufacturing them themselves. Apple panders to China constantly. So much so that the privacy functions we get to enjoy overseas are nonexistent in China. Apple has even moved all iCloud servers for Chinese citizens to China so that the CCP has full control over any and all data related to iPhones. Your point about who is manufacturing them could literally not be any less of an actual issue for anyone.

China has its own problems with its middle class “laying flat”. The people are revolting in one of the few ways they can, and it is affecting business and the economy there. It is something of a worldwide phenomena — the American version being “quiet quitting”. India and Vietnam are the new growth frontier.

So now in India you can work in a iPhone factory then go to your second job as an Apple customer Service Rep.

We are starting to be talking different things. I'm only expressing my pet peeves when tech bloggers use the verb manufacture willy nilly. That's all. About China, that's another discussion.

The iPhone 14 is an older generation iPhone.
