Ok, so please pardon my ignorance, but how exactly do I visit an Apple retail store from within the Apple App Store app?
I think the idea is that the App Store app generates a redemption code!

Simply search for a store inside the Apple Store app, then you'll see the link.
I also received the error message when trying to redeem the app through the "Featured" tab, but as the article states, you must redeem through the "Stores" tab.

If you click the link on the home page of the apple store app, it won't work. You have to tap the "store" button at the bottom, then you'll see another link that that app. That that link and you'll get the code for the free app.

What investment? To offer same apps to everyone? Everything is already in place - it's called APP STORE.
So let me get this straight -- all you have to do is download the Apple Store app and you get a free game? It doesn't require that you physically go to an Apple Store via a geo-fence? What's the point? This is not going to help Tim get people into Apple Stores like he wants them to.

What is so ridiculous about it? It's a free app and requires nothing more. Download the free app and then delete the apple store free app. I don't really see why people are making such a big deal out of this. Don't want a free ap then ignore the promotion all together.
I just downloaded the free app without needing to be anywhere near an Apple store. I am playing it now. Not bad and the price is right.

I have to admit that having that link on the home page of the apple store app is a bit confusing. Not well thought out in that regard as it is not obivious why one is getting the error.
The investment is not in getting you the app. Of course they could get you the app. The investment is the revenue lost from the sale of the app. And they're making that investment so people will download the Apple store app and maybe be persuaded to buy things in Apple stores. If there are no Apple stores in your country, there is no investment to make, let alone a "worth while" one.
Was getting the original "service not available" error, then followed the steps to get it through the store - it works, to a point. When I try to "redeem" the code it generates, it tells me the code has already been redeemed. The game, however, is not on my device and doesn't show up in my purchased list.
Exiting out of the app and trying to go back in generates the exact same code.
The game doesn't look interesting enough for me to play it, but thought I'd toss that out there in case someone else has the same bug.

redeem code not working
Apple Store link took me to App Store with redeem code popup, which then told me code already redeemed. Checked Color Zen page on app store but still asking for purchase rather than download. Of course I am completely devastated on missing out
