Reporter : How many units did you ship in 2013
Apple PR : 10
Reporter : Wow you shipped 10 million units ?
Apple PR : No 10
Reporter : OK so you shipped 10 thousand units
Apple PR : No 10 aka less than 11, aka the number of fingers on your hands

Joking aside, all the pundits saying the unit won't sell have been proven wrong

No one with any sense will expect millions and millions of units. The audience for the Mac Pro is very tiny compared to the whole. Many businesses do just fine, even great, with the MacBook Pro and the iMac. If the potential audience of folks that really need a Mac Pro is more than 1 million I would be shocked

yep, they certainly are. this was really just a nominal launch to fulfill earlier promises. It's pretty clear that they had some production issues.

Or they aren't having issues and the lack of models in store is due to some other reason.

This is a gen 1 device….

At current price levels, I'll wait for Gen 2 to know out all kinks.

If Apple follows tradition that release will be this summer. :D

When it comes down to it, I wonder how many stock configurations are being sold versus configure to orders?

My guess is that for many pros the $3,999 unit is light at 16GB RAM & a 256GB SSD and most will be upgrading to 32GB RAM and 512GB SSD.

Better to buy from Apple than to buy from one of those Chinese sites and get a FAUX Mac Pro!! - complete with Dual Celeron and nVidia RAGE 128 onboard...that falls apart in 2 days or catches fire. Then, Apple might replace your faulty Chinese Mac Pro with a *real* one!

Worse of all, they could send you a MiniBlack™ TrashCanDeluxe® and charge you $95.00 to ship from China.

This thread is hilarious. Is it meant to be funny or are people genuinely serious about commenting on whether their purchases arrive on the 27th or the 30th of December or sometime in January / February (life is so tough when you're this spoilt)? I'll definitely read the comments section more often from now on. Great work peeps.

That isn't necessarily true over the longer term. They spent quite a bit on hype, and the machine has been without a true update for a long time. I expected something. The biggest impediment would be figuring out how to work solutions for this and possibly front-loaded costs involved in replacing peripheral devices. I hope it does reach healthy stable levels though.

I ordered mine on the 19th, but with upgraded RAM and storage. My status still reads "processing" with a ship date sometime in January.

That status won't change for a few weeks. I am in the same boat, I don't expect to see a shipment until the 3rd or 4th week in January.

Apple wouldn't wait to ship them out for no reason, the ship dates are slipping because they have sold more than have been made so far. So Apple has to manufacture more and then ship them out.

Since they are just starting production, I suspect they only had stock models on hand. Hell, I think they just started hiring a majority of their workers in October. There was a job posting searching for 2,000 workers. It takes time to hire and train them. Easier to work with a single model at first until everyone gets their bearings.

No shipping date but...

I still have an estimate of January for my shipping date. I called them because I wanted to make a small change to my order but was told that while this was possible, it would cost me my place in the queue :(

So now I patiently wait for a delivery date of a new Mac Pro that almost matches what I want...

how's it different than any of the other threads on MR? this is an enthusiast site. people talk about niche things.

Very strong immediate demand for the MacPro, weaker than expected demand for the iPhone 5c.

Who would have thought?

I dunno. I thought, 'Who the hell will pay £400-£600 for an iPad when the global economy's collapsing?'

Apple has made this MacPro look like a 'sexy consumer device' to get a secondary market of people that like spending lots of money on gizmos, whether they need them or not and, in some cases, whether they really have the money

Guess I'm not seeing mine till at lease the summer

Buy don't lease... :p

I have been waiting since 2009, so excited to say the least. Getting it a few days earlier is a big deal for me. If you had a new expensive toy ordered, you are seriously telling me you would not be happy to know it was arriving early?

Don't be such a curmudgeon.

What's hilarious is you registering just to make this post. LOL. *points and laughs*

On topic, I'm happy people are getting their MPs so soon, and just a little jealous. :)

And how do you know demand is outstripping supply? You are just saying things as if they are somehow known.

None have been shipped yet. Who knows how many have been produced and no one knows how many have been ordered. So there you have it. A lot of known unknowns.

Are you out of your mind??? The shipping date has slipped to February, HENCE they are out of supply!

My hunch is that Apple made only very modest numbers of the stock configurations sensing that the vast majority of orders would be CTOs and with only modest production levels, ship dates slipped quickly.

Whenever I went to my local Apple store and saw the one, lonely Mac Pro sitting on the floor and more often than not being used to demos or classes, I would ask an employee, "How many of those Mac Pros do you sell?" Invariably the answer was something close to, "Just a few. Just about anyone who wants one, orders it through the website."

And your point is what exactly? Apple said they would ship in December. They are. Apple fulfilled their promise. I'm sure they would have shipped earlier if they were able to. But they didn't. It's OK. And some are getting them on Dec 27 which isn't the last day of December. Feel better?

Of course he doesn't feel better, not with that snarky tone of yours.

Obviously what you're saying is right, but it's like someone saying they'll get back to you on something in May (for example), you wait the whole month of may and finally on the very last day they get back to you.. like common, just waiting until the very end to release them,

They were not waiting. It's not like they had a bunch of Mac Pro's lying around.

This thing is laughably overpriced, even by apple standards

Saying something over and over again doesn't make it true.

It's quite reasonably priced for what it does.

If it's 'laughably overpriced', then you should be able to find a computer with the same specs for $2000. Give me a link, should be no problem finding many links, right?

No, you don't get an upvote.
