I'd buy one, but after 40 years of playing with computers I own absolutely nothing with a USB-C connector of either sex (or more sexes if that's a thing now). My Mid-2012 13" keeps cooking and I have a backup. Sometimes almost every port has something plugged in.
That problem is solved with a $99 Hyper hub.

Well my MacBook Pro 16 is now 10 months old and it has been one of the best Macs I have owned. I will miss bootcamp been playing microsoft flight simulator 2020 and it has been fun. It is a good time to get a MacBook Pro now and enjoy the Intel while it lasts. It will take a couple of years for Apple slip past the performance of Intel processors and work out the issues. So buy now enjoy for the next 3 to 4 years and trade in the old computer for a new one.

It's not going to happen. But part of me thinks you're probably already aware of that. Take heart though, 8th Gen Intel based Macs will be ready to make the jump soonest. Two 8th Gen based Intel Macs (the 2020 Intel Two-Port 13" MacBook Pro and 21.5" iMac) are VERY likely going to see replacement with Apple Silicon models THIS YEAR. The Mac mini likely won't be far off in that regard. All 8th Gen Macs (and, really, all 2020 quad-core 10th Gen Intel based 13" Mac notebooks, for that matter) are going to be ready to move to Apple Silicon as soon as Big Sur is out. The question is how ready is Apple to launch.

That said, if you, like me, need Intel, I'd either get the current Mac mini, or an iMac if what you need is an Intel Mac desktop.

I refuse to buy an iMac ever since my 2009 iMac GPU went bad and Apple told me to buy another iMac. They designed a product whose heat melts the solder and whose weight pulls the gpu from the board. And then they crippled and killed the remote display feature so I can’t even use the display as a second monitor for another computer.

Best Buy has been selling the 10th Gen. MacBook for $1,599 brand new for a few months now. Not a huge savings buying refurbished. You can usually bundle some extra discounts with Best Buy as well.

Most Apple laptops are out of stock with kids and e-learning, but I think we should see even more discounts closer to late September or early October.

I just saw that Costco will have it for $1599 starting Sept. 2

- 2.0GHz quad‑core 10th‑generation Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz, with 6MB shared L3 cache
- 16GB of 3733MHz LPDDR4X onboard memory
- 512GB SSD

And with a 2 year warranty. That is worth the extra $70 vs the refurb

Refurbished store is drained. Empty.
I'm not sure where you're looking, but the US Refurb Store has been restocked today. All of the Macs are available, including many CTOs, and even MBAs, which have been out of stock for at least a week.

There were a good number of MBPs, Minis, iMacs, and iMac/Mac Pros last evening too and for most of this past week.

I agree that the descriptions are extremely misleading. There is ZERO indication that one is newer than the other, even if you look at the specs. You have to dig into the tech specs at the bottom (which are collapsed by default) to see which proc you're getting. Most aren't going to do that. Apple is so slippery that I would consider it beyond misleading to the point of being dishonest and playing on the naivety of the average buyer.

Their greed knows no bounds. It really doesn't.

The information is all there openly. If people are buying computers without looking at the details, that's on them, not Apple. Lots of hardware companies collapse the details. Scrolling and expanding details is not all that hard.

The end of Intel is near. Get these babies while they are hot ! No thank you, will keep my 2015 which doesn't have the big brother, cook watching me from TPM chip.

Those descriptions on the INDEX page really stink. They need the SSD and RAM listed too.

Nice prices though...

Edited to clarify which page I'm saying could be better.
They redid the refurb page a few years ago and it’s just trash. You have to click into each and every Mac to see the specs that used to be listed right in the description.

Empty again. The “home office” demand is real.

Set price "low to high" and view the MBP subsection and visit pages 1-3 and see for yourself. The reason why it's important this works is because budget is most people's initial concern and allows the user to organise the pages with that initial concern in mind.
I have noticed it many times. I think Apple is a big/software oriented company, so they definitely could afford web designer for their website and they can. But i imho they preferred "not working" sorting tool, so that people will not see the right sorting and buy whatever their eye caught to be the cheapest. Little cheating game here.

Maybe the upcoming Mid 2020 Macbook pro 16 will still use intel? I am one of the few that still use bootcamp.....

I bought the 2019 and have zero regrets.

I probably boot to windows once a week (well twice as the first boot always crashes) to play Ark or something else when I’m out and about where I don’t want to lug a desktop. I will keep it till there is a good reason to upgrade, I’m not sure what I will do though, probably get a lower end MBP and a gaming laptop to replace my desktop.

Venn diagram of (1) people who spend $1300+ on a computer and care about processor generation and (2) people who don’t look at the specs before buying:

O O

Your accusation is uninformed and inappropriate.

Just a small note that since yesterday the refurb store Low to High and High to Low sorting is working, no matter what filtered view I use.

Or the few running refurb are just too lazy to fix it

$1699 for a 13" MBP with
- 2.0GHz quad‑core 10th‑generation Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz, with 6MB shared L3 cache
- 16GB of 3733MHz LPDDR4X onboard memory
- 1TB SSD

is quite tempting.

EDIT...

Oh. Dang. Even better... $1699 for

- 2.3GHz quad‑core 10th‑generation Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz, with 8MB shared L3 cache
- 16GB of 3733MHz LPDDR4X onboard memory
- 512GB SSD

Don't need a 1TB SSD. Or I can save some money and for $1529 get

- 2.0GHz quad‑core 10th‑generation Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz, with 6MB shared L3 cache
- 16GB of 3733MHz LPDDR4X onboard memory
- 512GB SSD

Are there any noticeable speed differences between the i5 and i7?
