Apple today started selling refurbished second-generation HomePod units in Canada for the first time since the speaker was released in January 2023. The refurbished units are priced at $339 in Canada, down from $399 brand new.

Apple began selling refurbished HomePod 2 units in the U.S. and many other countries just over a year ago, so it took a while for availability to expand to Canada.

Apple says its refurbished HomePods undergo full functionality testing, and they are inspected, cleaned, and repackaged in a plain white box with the power cord and documentation. The refurbished HomePods are covered by Apple's limited one-year warranty policy, and they are eligible for extended AppleCare+ coverage.

The second-generation HomePod has a similar design as the original HomePod that was discontinued in 2021, but with a larger backlit touch surface, two fewer tweeters, two fewer microphones, an indoor temperature and humidity sensor, and a few other changes. For more details about the speaker, read our HomePod roundup.

Apple has yet to release a third-generation HomePod, so this is still the newest model.

Nope. I can't buy a HomePod if I know it's going to stay with the dumb version of Siri. Apple will have to release a new HomePod ASAP or be extremely clear to people who purchase them - that Apple Intelligence is never coming on those devices.

Latest reports say they don't have any plans of bringing Apple Intelligence to HomePods. Which is a shame because Siri is by itself the way we interact with those things.

Every time I use Siri in my car on iOS 18, I'm still frustrated and have to remind myself that it's still the dumb version and that it'll get better someday...

I understand your bitterness, I hate Siri as much as you but HomePod is a great speaker whose primary job is playing music. As a speaker (better in stereo par) it works like magic and brings a little bit of joy every day. I know that feeling, some music is filling my apartment right now 😃

I came here to more or less write exactly what you expressed.

I'm personally holding out for an updated HomePod / Home Automation center with Siri AI.

Until then, my JBL speaker will have to do, however long it takes.

I have finally, for some time ago, got Siri quiet om all my devices. I'm not turning it om again.
I do love the sound on my Homrpods v2 and somewhat the mini's (for the price), but I've put them high enough so I don't accidentally touch them to awake the 'dumb Siri' again.

Generally, the next speakers I will continue buying will be Creative. Have 1 pair new, and 2 par old one's that still is great through my Expresses. If Apple could sell new versions of the Express, it would be an instant buy! But no more HomePod's. No more Siri!

I spend so much time yelling at my HomePods that my 5 year-old, when asked what she wanted to get me for my next birthday said "a better Siri".

It's just so abominably stupid that it manages to screw up even the incredibly dumbed-down few commands I try to get it to understand. I can usually get it to turn lights on and off, play my local public radio station, and add stuff the grocery list. (Though it still manages to blow it a shocking amount of the time, or just speak WAY too loudly or softly for the room, or inexplicably answer me from a HomePod two or three rooms away).

So yeah, as much as I like my HomePods' sound (2 minis and one full-sized first gen) I will be holding out for smarter ones.

I'm gonna leave this here. NSFW for copious (and justified) swearing:

U.K.
I can’t recommend the new HomePod since finding out the wifi protocol actually went backwards with the new version. WiFi 7 and 6E is just way more stable at a distance. The new one is WiFi 4…

It is a great speaker, I have the original HomePod and it's absolutely great for audio, once you managed to put the song you want. Best way I found is to use my iPhone to interact with it, otherwise it's just frustrating.

I often use it to ask for the temperature, and sometimes it tells me it's 22℃ in my living room 😵
I mean, can it get any worse...
