You're correct. I construed the casing for the screen. The screen would be easier to replace over the casing, if the screen would be damaged or scratched during the repair process.

Also, the downside with the aluminum casing, if it is scratched, it's permanent.
Oh yeah def. if I can get a screen replaced I choose that over a whole phone.

I wouldn't mind if I caused the scratches myself but they did. And they weren't just scratches it looked like the screwdriver they use to unscrew the tiny screws was marking the entire bottom lol.

I'm fairly Careful with my iPhones. And it would really set me off if I Saw damage to my iPhone made by Apple. But then again, they're fairly reputable, hopefully they would stand behind any damage they may have caused.

I just had my matte black 7 camera replaced at an Apple store the other day. Phone is in literal mint condition, aside from scratches on the antenna lines, which were there out of the box btw.i also noticed that (as others are mentioning) my tech 21 case has unfortunately caused even more scratches to the antenna lines, just as bad as your photos. I didn't notice this until removing the case for the first time today under the Apple Store lights. It's been wrapped in the case since unboxing.

Anyway, after the repair, I noticed a few specks on the back. Specifically, the Apple logo had a speck that cannot be wiped off, where as it was previously flawless. Also, there's a small silver speck on the back under the logo...kind of like paint chipping. My screen also had a few dust scratches, which I know were not previously there - only because I've had a tempered glass on since day one.

What irritated me most, however, was after getting home I noticed a very large amount of what I assume is the glue or bonding agent, alongside the entire right side of the phone display - right where the display meets the bezel. I am assuming this happened when they resealed the display after replacing the camera. I was able to remove the excess with a razor, but still...just kind of sloppy to leave such a mess exposed like that. I wish I had taken photos. It honestly looked like the rubber gasket was misaligned, and was just hanging off the edge of the screen, where it meets the bezel. I was initially worried about the waterproofing of the phone, and kind of still am...but it looks like the plastic part of the bezel is still lined up perfectly. So I dunno...it did seem sloppy, however the turnaround time was quick, and it was the last repair of the night.

FWIW, I know the folks doing these repairs are under an extreme making of time constraints, so I'm not upset...just a bit disappointed. If I sent my car in for repairs, and it came back with glue hanging out and a few new scratches, that'd be an entirely different story. This is just a phone.
And this is why you always inspect your item before you leave the store
