You do that; iPads aren't for kids. And good luck with the battery life on that thing. Flash sucks.

iPad is a perfect device for kids, as a matter of fact she already has an iPod touch and just wished it will run Nick Jr. Disney and other favorites. A touch device is the perfect solution for kids who cannot type as adults do. Versatility and more support, beyond the iPhone/iPod touch would be nice. The iPad is a horrible idea without complete web support. I own almost every apple product produced since 1984 including an Apple II, Apple IIc, the original Mac and many gadgets you only read about. Battery life is not an issue here, education and interactivity is more important. I can afford buying two iPads such that when one is being used the other is charging for my little one. So yes I will buy and Android powered HP and forgo this Apple product for now.

'Electric Computers'

Fanboys will do anything to get a hold of the iPad... and the freight consignment notes!!

It's getting a little melodramatic in here, no?

Guys.. take it easy.
Sounds like Apple is staying within the law and wants to cover their butts if this thing doesn't sell well. That's it. They just want to be able to spin it because I'm sure they have their doubts after all the negative press the iPad's gotten. I'm actually quite certain that it's gonna sell great and they have nothing to worry about (not as well as iPhones and iPods of course, but certainly as well as any single netbook). I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's just crazy seeing some of the entitlement. You NEED to know how many they're shipping? I figured it was more of a buy it or not thing. If this is legal, then let them have at it. They've always been a secretive company and it's added to their mythos. Good for them, I say. It might be marketing as much as anything. The stories going around about Steve Jobs and Apple certainly help build the legend. With silence from them, everyone goes crazy and gives them a ton of publicity without them spending a single dollar.

Hot off the wire... the iPad is not selling at all! (Of course it's not on sale yet. But you knew that right?)

:D LOL Maybe they are not making as many, though, because they are waiting to see how they see. But they do not want consumers knowing that they are skeptical.

This is laughable. I'm glad I switched to the Nexus One. I would switch back to Windows to get away from Apple altogether, but I just love the iMacs :) iMovie is pretty much the only thing keeping me from going back to PC.

Lol!

No he is not getting an iPad because he's a Winboy Troll. His post is quite transparent and so off topic.

LOL ! Actually there are lots of reasons I'm not buying an ipad... first of all,
it's not a replacement for my macbook. I need a device that runs full snow leopard. The fact that the ipad is a whole new OS means that we will all have
to buy all new software for anything that we are now doing on our laptops. I
have a lot of specialty software on my mac that will never come out on the
ipad, so it could never replace my macbook. my macbook is getting old so
I'll have to replace it soon, I was hoping the ipad would do that but definitely
not. Well the point about the ipad is it is slaved to your computer- it's not
a stand-alone device, so if I got an ipad, i'd have to get another laptop anyway...

Why must they keep things so secretive.... Too excited to wait for mine any longer...

well for one thing there's the risk of theft if folks could just google when shipments are due, by what means, etc

given some of the break ins at warehouses and such you can understand them being paranoid about such things

In house as in America? Do you really believe the iPad would start at $499 if it was produced in America? People complain about Apple's prices now, and production is in Asia.

the US government refuses to make changes to keep runaway production down.

it's not just in tech, i work in Hollywood and it's a problem we've had for a while. Making a movie or a tv show is very risky so the studios want to lower the risk by having as low a budget as possible. This means access to needed outdoor locations, sound stages, post production houses and even the best labor, tax etc situations. One reason why a lot of shows went to Vancouver and Toronto is because all the pieces were there, especially the money ones. then states like California started offering sales tax breaks, so more stuff stayed in Hollywood. Even shows that were supposed to be set in New York, Texas, Louisiana etc. Finally those states got smart and starting offering breaks. And now you get Ugly Betty and Nurse Jackie filmed in New York, True Blood filming in Louisiana and so on

Now we need the US to make it the same or better for the bottom line to keep the work in the US. without raising prices through the roof (I'd be willing to pay a little bit more for US made stuff. say $10 more on an ipod, $50 on a laptop and $100 on a desktop)

One day jobs will issue four golden tickets for fan boys and girls to pull back the curtain and see what apples really got going on.

i thank the heavens every day that i am not this paranoid....

You mean as paranoid as the people who actually CARE whether Apple keeps its shipping records private? Now THAT is paranoia :)

(Of course half the people in this thread are only pretending they care. As if somehow Apple’s handling of their internal shipments makes a Nexus One a better phone...)

It's a publicly-traded company. How am I supposed to make an informed decision as an investor if I don't know how many of the things... the supposed future of computing... they're shipping or selling?

What an insane, North Korea like cult. Unbelievable.

Why should you care?

Especially when the results are:

Macs
OS X
iPhones
iPod Touches, etc.

If secrecy and tight control is what it takes to get stuff like this, I'm all for it. Maybe it's time for the rest of this unimaginative, half-asleep industry to take a page out of Apple's playbook and take their own products a bit more seriously.

There are sales, and then there are orders. Store like BestBuy, Walmart, and every little mom and pop store that sells iPods have already told Apple how many units they want for opening day. Apple of course can ration the supply, but if those orders are less than they anticipated Apple would NOT like those numbers to be public. Thus the clamp down on shipping info. Part of Apple's business success is the buzz about products and the bandwagon effect. Many people don't buy unless they think their peers are also buying. If real data gets out that the iPad doesn't sell well, then fewer people will buy one.

Jobs needs to refocus his energy on producing quality products and getting all publishers on board, not avoiding some freaking leaks in the line.
