Mac Mini, Mavericks, OS X 10.9.1 (13B42) 1-yr old system 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 I did a Verizon speed test while online, in "MyVerizon". I'm in New York City, Manhattan. DSL service. FiOS not available. Link to their speedtest: http://my.verizon.com/services/speedtest/ Results: 8.96MB down, 0.75MB up. Verizon gave back this: "Speed Test is complete, here are the recommendations: Your computer settings may be slowing you down, select Apple Broadband Tuner to reconfigure your settings and maximize your speeds." The link takes you to: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Broadband_Tuner_1_0 Also did a test on www.speedtest.net: Ping: 30ms Download: 9.99Mbps Upload: 0.75Mbps Service is Verizon DSL; supposed to be 7.1-15 Mbps . I downloaded Apple Broadband Tuner and tried to install: message: "BroadbandTuner.mpkg can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer." "...unidentified developer"? Its from an Apple site! Anyway, I did a little searching and found this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24172708#24172708 I would like to apply the fix "baltwo" detailed, but I'm not Mac-terminal-programming savvy. I got to terminal, logged in and got to this screen: # Tuning network for broadband # # START kern.ipc.maxsockbuf=512000 net.inet.tcp.sendspace=131072 net.inet.tcp.recvspace=358400 # END [ Read 8 lines ] ^G Get Help ^O WriteOut ^R Read File ^Y Prev Page ^K Cut Text ^C Cur Pos ^X Exit ^J Justify ^W Where Is ^V Next Page ^U UnCut Text^T To Spell What I don't understand is where and how to do these parts of the instructions: "Add the following lines: kern.ipc.maxsockbuf=800000 net.inet.tcp.sendspace=400000 net.inet.tcp.recvspace=400000 net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 net.inet.udp.recvspace=131072 Then type CONTROL o - it will ask to save, press return key. Then type CONTROL x Restart the computer and Shazam!" I'm much more comfortable working with pc's, using a command window and entering commands. Even though my first computer was the original 1984 Mac, and I still like Mac's, for my business back in the 1980's, I had to go pc, and my learning curve is stuck there. The Mac Terminal application and its commands are totally foreign to me, so if someone could "hold my hand" and walk me through how to make the changes, I'd be much obliged! And I'm really talking about giving me, keystroke-by-mouse-click, instructions on how to do the above "baltwo" instructions inside terminal! Many thanks and Happy Holidays!
