do you know if dick smith or an apple centre can match an edu discount???

I very much doubt it. Either you qualify for it or you don't unfortunately. Apple are very strict with their pricing so resellers don't have the ability to "bargain" on the price. They're far more likely to throw in free stuff.

As for Melbourne - it's a wonderful place to live. Very diverse, lively (there's always something going on), friendly atmosphere, shops, cafes, markets galore and still reasonable in terms of expense. :)

they probably mean the Quad 2.5GHz PowerMac which was the last top of the range PPC PowerMac.

I think given the price of $3,049 and the prices in the refurb store they mean the Dual 2.3Ghz model, but someone's got it wrong somewhere down the line. Not a huge problem obviously, I'm just bored. ;)

Should do the trick nicely. An yeah, a gig is essential to fun Mac usage.

does that mean only one module??? so i can add another 512mb card.. or will i have to get two of them??
it means there is a single stick in there, and a free slot. i would put a gig stick in that slot if it is possible; 1.5GB gives better performance than 1GB :)

Bad RAM. the iMac uses notebook RAM.

You live in melbourne, so go check out Streetwise (link on first page). I've never had a problem with their RAM, it's all certified, etc.

If you can, I'd probably wait a couple of weeks to see if a core 2 duo model comes up in the refurb store. I don't think it would cost much more (it might be the same) and it would be a better buy. They've had them in there recently.

i'm over this bloody waiting game... this is what happened to me last sunday.. decided to buy and then was told to wait or get a 2 duo.. i totally agree with you though.. why go back to old tech when newer and better is around?? i think i may wait.. even if it is for the extra ram pre instaled! how often do they update the refurb section??? What software if any shoyuld i expect from a refurb?

i'm not in desperate need for a new computer.. it would be nice.. maybe i should save and get a 20incher??

They update the refurb store on a daily basis so it's worth checking back every day, first thing in the morning. I check it most mornings just for the hell of it and over the course of two weeks there's always a good selection.

You get the same software as you would with a non-refurb machine but there's a slim chance you'll get an unadvertised upgrade like extra RAM or a bigger hard drive.
