I'm not buying the idea that Apple has their users' best interests in mind anymore. Tim Cook would happily sell you out for a 1% gain in profits.

That's cause it'll be his legacy. 10, 20 or 30 years down the line, he'll be remembered as Nickel and Dimeing Timmy:

• Making Apple the richest and most valuable company in the world (on the stock markets).
• Growing their subscription and commission revenue
• Possibly: transitioning their software offers to subscription pricing (we're about to see)

He has otherwise failed to successfully establish transformative technology or a transformative device for Apple:

• Apple watch? A moderate success, no more (and they bungled that too, in the beginning, marketing it as a fashion accessory and app platform, before pivoting to activity tracking)
• Vision Pro: Failure
• Apple car: never even made it to market
• Generative AI? Completely missed the boat on that one.
• Natural language processing and LLMs? Left it - Siri - withering for more than a decade (although 2017's HomePods and 2015's Apple watches are devices that are practically begging for it. I mean, if you saw Star Trek TNG's communicator badges in the late 1980s/early 1990s and look at the Apple watch and the HomePod... just put two and two together...)

That leaves Apple's financial success as is main lasting legacy.

Although AirPods Pro arguably did transform the earphone market, might have to give him credit for that, I guess.

I thought Google and Apple already implemented RCS E2EE, and it's held back by mobile carriers not supporting encrypted messages.

Apple’s likely not going to put forth the effort until someone informs them they PLAN to adopt E2EE. Just like they didn’t put forth the effort for RCS until a carrier/region told them they HAD to in order to continue selling phones.

I made the mistake of throwing my toys out the pram and I just cancelled iCloud altogether and just keep everything local now. Its a pain but I refuse to use it without ADP.



I agree but I just don't think young people seem to be as bothered about their data like us older folks (I'm 43).. I've no proof, im just basing it off a few conversations ive had with teenagers/early 20's crowd. they just seem blasé about it all. dont back up anything etc

I’ve seen one that posted their badge on social media letting everyone know they got the job… right after attending an orientation where they mentioned that they shouldn’t show their badge in public. It was a fairly short term of employment.
