"Apple's second 'spaceship' campus..."

Did they ever finish their first 'spaceship' campus?

Not Apple, but "someone" else in Cheltenham (UK) .... ;)

Theatre looks small until you look see the tiny little pickup truck nearby for scale. It's pretty darn big.

Speaking of big - what's "Mt. Apple" all about? Sound obstruction for the parkade? Water reservoir? Great big pile of dirt from the excavation?

It's an occult pyramid. That is the truth which everyone will slate, deny and make fun of. But it's the truth.

Once finished, it will be very impressive, especially once they finish the surrounding grounds.

Same "worries" that people have had for over a decade every year--certainly something that has been coming to fruition each of those years.

Let's look at over decade, 2003 iPod, 2007 iPhone, 2010 iPad.....etc I think you have choosen the wrong decade ;) only since Steve passed away, and a few years after that people started to voice "worries"

The decade post jobs will be the one where each year people will predict the down fall of Apple. I'd say 2014 - 2024 . 2002-2012.... One hell of a good decade as an Apple fan!

Does anyone know if they will be using curved glass or just normal flat sheets?

I know it's easy to think.... Ohhh it's round so it will need curved glass.
No does not mean that at all, like even lovely smooth round things in computer games, if you zoom in close enough you will see it's just lots of flat sheets which are fractionally angled against each other.

Would certainly construction wise be far easier to use flat sheets than a tiny tiny curve to each piece.

Not to mention be less expensive, although i can't imagine Apple cutting corners to save money on anything.

curved glass would just be.....well... space age...

it really depends on the size of the individual glass panels.

If they were say MASSIVE 20ft wide sheets of glass then sure, probably curved, but if smaller then given the diameter of the building, the amount of curve may be very little, only a few millimetres on each sheet.

small difference in looks, but major difference if you have to then bend the metal that holds the glass to the exact same bend the glass is, and get all matching, far far easier to use flat sheets.

Hopefully we'll find out :)

What is it with people who make videos on YouTube these days and picking the worst music they can find to put on it?

If you even look in this very forum you can see that for example when he iPod was released (which is one of the biggest things that pushed Apple forward) there were tons of people complaining about it thinking it was a bad product and that Apple was "doomed".

Reminds me of the IBM buildings. Cool for their time but completely corporate and lacking any identity.

They should have had some balls and built this like a giant apple logo.
So to have any identity means building something in the shape of the company's logo?

It's nothing compared to the last 2 years in my experience and opinion.

It's unrealistic to expect everyone on a forum to cheer all the time.

Go read the thread when Apple launched the unibody Macs in 2008. Or the thread about the iPhone 4 leak. No different than anything we see today.

And that's part of what I was saying, that there have pretty much always been people saying that Apple is doomed and things have been just fine (and really way better than that) nonetheless.

This place is huge.

The layout makes it seem hard to get around though. I know they're stressing that you can walk outside thru the open inner circle courtyard to get across the building, but still. The Pentagon does it but this place seems to dwarf the Pentagon in size (too lazy to look up sq/ft...)

I would expect many gadgets to help you around the campus quickly. Lots of electric bikes, shuttles, and personal "hover boards".

Now I'm curious, do you think this guy has permission to fly his drone over the site or do you think Apple contracts him to do this? I am a fellow drone pilot and I would love to be able to film something like that with my drone but I can't stop thinking about how much trouble I would get in if I tried ya know? I figured there would be an army of security guards with assault rifles trying to chase him down haha ;)
I have driven around the new campus and I didn't see anyone guarding anything on the outside. There are only a few gates where you can get in from though, and the walls around the site are huge, big enough to not see or climb over. I'm pretty sure the person who filmed these was not commissioned. These drones can go a pretty far distance so he can be a few blocks away and still have control over the drone. I would never try it though ha.

The difference is Steve jobs is not there anymore. I think people are way more critical these days. In my opinion the negatively is much worse in the last 24 months .

Personally I see them these days where Sony was when it was on top....cruising based on past products.
