A car without a steering wheel was never going to happen. While its obviously something that could be researched, I'm not sure if anyone thought that is what they would release as their first product.
I've seen working concept cars with joystick control. No steering wheel or pedals needed.

It will allow customers to do things like watch movies or multitask while on highways.
I a lot of countries operating a phone while driving is illegal - if movie watching or multitasking is a feature, it will require legislation change, that’s just not going to happen within the next 5 years, if ever

May be an autonimious car is more complicated then distributing functionality between Mac, iPad and iPhone to make as much profit as possible.

It would be cool to see an Apple Car. The driver could use Apple AR/VR goggles and plug-in an iPhone to run CarPlay and infotainment.

It doesn't have to be a large Car. It can be a city Car. E.g. Plug-in your iPad if you want a large screen.

Make it a driver's Car.

The current layout of steering wheel and pedals has been good enough for the 1916 Cadillac Model 51 and it’s good enough for me.

...the company is considering a remote command center that could assist drivers and control cars from afar during emergencies. It may also offer its own insurance program to companies. Apple's scaled-down vehicle will feature steering wheels and pedals, like a normal vehicle. It will allow customers to do things like watch movies or multitask while on highways.
The insurance on this is going to be so cost prohibitive unless and until it's proven to be safe and absolutely 100% accident proof.

An Apple Car could easily fit in an Apple Store. There could be one parked outside the store or mall for a test drive.
How can you test drive it at an Apple Store in Singapore 🇸🇬? Unless it drives on water.

Apple wanted to create a self-driving car without a steering wheel or pedals, but has decided that such a plan is not feasible at the current time. The vehicle will have guided driving features that work on highways, but it will not be able to operate entirely on its own at all times.
Apple's AI will run the thing? Hard pass.
Apple will use the cloud for some AI processing, and the company is considering a remote command center that could assist drivers and control cars from afar during emergencies. It may also offer its own insurance program to companies. Apple's scaled-down vehicle will feature steering wheels and pedals, like a normal vehicle.
But no Windows™, right? Must be the umpteenth time I've repeated that joke.🙃
It will allow customers to do things like watch movies or multitask while on highways. The car will provide alerts when it is time to switch to manual controls for city streets or in poor weather, with the self-driving component perhaps limited to the North America at launch.
If the AI could set a limiter in poor weather, that would be something I'd be interested in. Every frakking time I'm putt-putting down the highway during a severe thunderstorm, there is always some 4x4 truck or SUV crashed along the side of the road. People think, four wheel drive magically gives them traction in any road condition.🤦‍♂️

Hopefully Apple doesn’t follow other manufactures and charge extra to software unlock certain features. But maybe that’s why they just increased App Store prices to 10k…
Agreed. I think they increased the App Store prices due to Apple AR/VR headsets coming in the near future. The supporting apps are going to be very pricey.

There's too much liability with autonomous vehicles and robots when they malfunction and kill people. 😂

There will be no cars that will be Full Self-Driving in our time life frame
Disagree. I think it will happen much sooner than you realize. Waymo and Cruise are basically already self-driving within geofence, and the advancement made by Tesla in that area is improving by leaps and bounds with every update. Full self-driving is definitely coming.
