well I'm bummed I missed out but I've gotten my fair share of apple freebies over the year so yay for those that got it!

CONGRATS to those who got the 6 percent thats awesome! I applied for the card yesterday(Instantly approved) but I didnt purchase the macbook pro 14 inch yet(Going to trade my 2018 model into the apple store on Monday) question about the cash back, now that its 3 percent..is the 3 percent taken off of the TOTAL price or off of the price before tax? Will be getting a gift card for 540 since that is what apple quoted me on so will use that towards the purchase of the macbook pro and the rest will go on the apple card

A few years ago Southwest accidentally emailed a lot of customers that they had achieved status (awards program in airline speak). I was one of them, and was super excited at the time, but a few hours later they emailed again saying it had been a mistake. I was actually only two flights away from achieving it in reality but it was the end of the year and the counter resets.

I emailed them back saying I understood it was a mistake, but that considering they had sent the email, I felt like they should make good. They didn't, for me or any of the customers. I fly United now, because of this exchange. I admit this is definitely a privileged discussion and maybe I was just being 'that guy', but I really felt like they had gotten my hopes up and should have made good on their mistake.

Anyways, all that to say, I think its pretty awesome Apple is making good on their error. And that's one of the reasons I remain loyal to Apple :)

That's a really nice wish list.

I still don't understand.

Apple sent out an error, gave (some) people the 6% on their (one-time) apple purchase.

People are a little upset they didn't get the extra 3% on a one-time purchase?

It might be understandable if they spent $10,000+ that one time.

But if they spent a few grand it doesn't make any sense to be so upset.

Could someone do some math/logic behind this reason to be upset?

No,

Your total purchase goes on the apple card. (I believe the 3% is on the purchase mount BEFORE TAXES and fees)

The 3% cash back (value) goes into your Apple Wallet the same day (in digital wallet cash) You can use it as such.

You'll have to complete the purchase (its charged to your Apple CARD)

Then you will receive the Apple Cash in your Apple WALLET. Then you can use that cash for whatever you want (yes you can use it towards paying off your Apple Card)

I don’t believe there is any legal grounds Apple would have to follow that would prevent them from removing the extra 3%. It’s called an error, people do them all the time.
Generally, it’s just better to pucker up and eat the results of the error than to try to reverse it when it comes to financial issues/errors. 1) Their accountants will probably find a way to reduce it from their taxes 2) would probably cost more in wages to fix than to just let it go.

Anyone remember that bank ATM I think last year giving out the wrong bills. 20s instead of 10s I think. The bank would know who used the ATM, but the cost of going after the people was probably higher than just letting it go. I am sure a lot of the people who read that wished that they had used that ATM before it was fixed.
But, be careful of what you wish for or you might end up like that Aussie down under who exploited a bug in a banks ATM. He is now going to rot in jail for a lot of years.

This is just a simple cost A vs cost B scenario.

The only reason I use my Apple Card is the wallet integration. Only American Express does it as well as Apple does.

Curious, what does American Express do better than other card issuers? The functionality and options of the Chase card I've added to Wallet seem to operate just like my Amex card.

Just a heads up for anyone who got this - I got the email that I was getting the 6% in Apple Cash, but they actually applied 3% in Apple Cash and 3% as an account credit. Same money, just done differently. So if you’re expecting to see the credit in Apple Cash and don’t, check to see if you got an account credit.

Great! Thanks so much for the info. I already made an appt to do the trade in of my old macbook pro 2018 model at the apple store for monday.. once I get the gift card I will apply it to the purchase(Wont be purchasing it right away Im waiting for apple to announce extended holiday returns that way its not 14 days, besides cant get a new macbook til mid november anyway) so when I do checkout online, how do I add the gift card balance to my account so when I checkout I will already have the balance applied to the order, and the rest will go on the apple card?

Sorry I didn't know you were also doing a trade-in as well.

OK, it will be like this example as follows: (all numbers are examples)

You trade in your device = $500 (example) gift card/store credit

You buy a new device = $2000 retail

Your total amount due is = $1500 ($2000 - $500 gift card) + taxes and fees. (ive done this before and taxes were applied AFTER THE GIFT CARD was applied) so my taxes were on $1500 NOT $2000 (but it may vary by state)

Your Apple Card 3% cash back is ONLY Applied to the CHARGED amount for the purchase on the Credit Card (I believe before taxes I could be wrong).

AFTER your purchase Your Apple Wallet will be credited for the 3% daily cash back for you to use for whatever you like (that includes paying off our Apple CARD).

Normally in the past I would sell old items on craigslist, etc and get cash..but with covid and all, dont want to meet anyone in person and dont feel comfortable selling the macbook online, you always risk someone saying "Oh its not in good shape" even though its perfect so I wont bother with that..

so once I get the gift card..I apply it to my balance online..and when I checkout(Using my PC I dont like using my phone too many ways to mess things up besides never done it before) instead of it currently showing no balance, it will show 540.00..then when I checkout I can click on
Pay Monthly
with Apple Card
and the remainder of what I owe will be there..and once done I can go into my wallet and once charged I can use that 3 percent cash back on the order itself?

Not the "order itself" you'll be using that daily cash to pay down your Apple CARD balance.
