I doubt they would. For most people this would have the social appeal / status symbol of the signature white earbuds, rather than iPhone / MacBook. Pulling out the white card is as distinctive and identifying as seeing someone rocking the white earbuds on a train / subway. The white is striking, makes it more noticeable.

It’s possible though, like when the card hits critical mass, that Apple would give options so people can differentiate.

It’s possible that behind the scenes there are the same people in control, but it is a fact that they are separate companies.
Well, same could be said about rose gold that was brought up. In any case, again, it was more of a poke to relate it all to Apple palette of color options than anything else.

I’m thrilled about all of the credit monitoring stuff tbqh. Having and knowing how to use credit is definitely a quality of life improvement. It's not simply another way to simulate fake real life over a wire.

Since I don't use credit cards this isn't much of an interest to me. The physical card does look slick though!

some people can't handle credit - others can. FWIW there are no numbers on the card or CV code - so nobody can steal the numbers at a gas station or restaurant - I would say this card is more secure than regular cards
It's got a mag strip so your name, card numbers and expire date are in the strip. There's no date on the card so not sure how the date will work on the mag strip. Anyway a card skimmer at a gas staton can still get that info.

You need a credit card for a hospital stay? Hmm news to me..

I unfortunately dealt with this when I was unexpectedly taken to the emergency room. While I'm laying there someone wheeled in cart with a payment device. I remember being annoyed because I didn't have my HSA Visa with me. I used to only put it in my wallet if I had a doctor's appointment that day, which was not the best plan.

Thanks for the reply. It has been a very long time since I looked into MasterCard. I’ve traveled international for almost 25 years and visa was the way to go. All our business cards are visa. Even my back cards are backed by visa. I don’t have any knowledge of who uses MasterCard. I just know I have to be able to use my CC. Looks like I’ll be getting my first MasterCard.

Same here. I think it's more frequent for me to see Discover!

Which credit reporting agency block should I remove for them to check my credit, once they are taking applications? Crap, ... am I a fanboy?

Should have made it 3% for all purchases and they would have taken the entire CC market.
This. That is the only compelling reason that would make me sign up. There are too many better rewards options out there than what Apple is offering.

What is the appeal of this? There seem to be dozens of cards which offer better or similar rewards, and critically come with perks like purchase insurance. It seems like a vanilla credit card issued by a bank with a poor reputation for honesty and no experience in consumer credit, with apple branding.

I'd say it is a perfect fit for Apple.

Look at their hardware.

Great slick design… externally. But when you compare it to other computer offerings, it lacks a lot of the extras others offer. :D

I agree though, the Goldman Sachs involvement stinks. I wonder (if it rolls out globally) who they will tie up with.

Watching the keynote now, and I have to say, this new physical card is the worst case of complete form over function I’ve ever seen! It’s utterly pointless I think.
They should have stuck to the wallet and Apple Pay which works brilliantly.

That's their primary use case, the physical card is just an add-on basically for those occasions where one might be needed, and really probably more for "branding" type of purposes.

On the flip side both are trying to establish themselves in this industry so it could be good. Goldman can help Apple win trust with the bankers and Apple can influence goldman into better decisions and how to make money by being good to consumers.

Apple Pay all the way at the gas station.

The Apple Card is my favourite product launch since Apple Watch. If they drop the interest rate to a simple flat 10%, Apple will attract a whole new generation of customers. 13-24% is a ridiculous cash grab.

"Ridiculous cash grab." Alas, Apple can't suspend the real world of finance and banking to come up with some arbitrary rate that makes you feel good inside.

You see, credit card companies don't get to print money, they have to pay people to use their money to extend you credit to buy that nice Apple computer or car, etc. Those people want a reasonable rate of return for their investments like everyone else. Then they have to maintain expensive systems that allow you and merchants to be able to do business on credit.

And where do you think that 2 or 3 % that is rebated to you comes from? And, unlike those monthly fees that everyone else charges, who do you think is paying for the costs of international currency conversion costs?

Add to that massive fraud and a system that allows people to run up massive credit bills only to declare bankruptcy. You undoubtedly love the fact that when someone steals your credit card information you essentially have no liability. Guess who pays for the billions in fraud? We all do in the form of higher interest rates? You may support our incredibly easy consumer bankruptcy laws, but who pays for the billions the credit card companies have to write off each year? We all do in the form of higher interest rates.

Finally, you don't understand that Apple isn't getting all or even a majority of that interest rate. Goldman Sachs and MasterCard are running it and Apple is only getting a portion of those fees.

Here's a article from Nerd Wallet that is a good starting point for people who want to better understand why interest rates on credit cards are so high.

I read that stupid two factor authorization is required in order to sign up for the Apple Card. I absolutely hate 2FA and refuse to enable it. I’m certainly not alone on this.

Why are you not a fan of 2FA? Personally, I think it's a good idea to enable it where possible, but I can see how people can get annoyed by the extra hoops to log into stuff.

Why are you not a fan of 2FA?

I have more than one Apple ID. It's even more of a bother when you have a situation like that.

Also, I often have access to a computer or tablet at times when I don't have my iPhone with me. What do I do in that case?

2FA is a bother, plain and simple. That bother is so significant I refuse to enable it.

For me, every single one of my Apple devices (MacBook Pro, iPhone, etc.) displays the 2FA code when I try to log into Apple's website. Of course, that'll require other devices besides just an iPhone.

Yeah, but what about when you are using a Mac at the office that is not YOURS? And what about when you use Windows? You see, it's not just about using your own Mac computers.

If somebody wants to give me extra security without the bother, great. But if I don't have my iPhone or one of my Apple devices with me (and there are many times I don't), 2FA is a barrier to my getting something done.

If anyone can show me otherwise, please guide me on why 2FA is so easy to use under any circumstance! Seriously. I'm open-minded on this.

I user Windows at work, Mac at home, and enable 2FA on every account that I can and it's 95% of the time something I don't have to think about. What is your usage scenario where you're constantly being bothered by it? My one exception is my work laptop. I choose to use 2FA with every Gmail login. I use my phone for the 2FA login prompt and have my office phone as a trusted phone number for 2FA codes if I were to lose my phone.
