Who cares about the interest rate? You shouldn't ever carry a balance on your credit card. Credit cards aren't ever the right tool for financing purchases. They're for convenience and security.
You are 100% correct. There are too many people who have huge credit card debt and dig themselves in hole that is hard to get out of especially with the interest charged. Just insane.

I won’t ever use a credit card again... don’t care who’s behind it.

I like the fresh approach to credit, but still won’t get me to sign up and borrow money.
So, every time someone gets your debit ca
Does anyone currently have a credit card made of metal? I am curious what your experience is with it and US airport security.

Having a thin, sharpish looking, piece of metal in your wallet is bound to trigger some TSA screener to take a closer look at it.

I am not so worried about having to bring it through, since I can probably tell them to toss it if its an issue and disable it on my phone.

I am more just curious because I want to get through the line as fast as possible and don't want to have to be held up every time. Also I have TSA Pre✓ and have a sneaking suspicion if I get flagged enough times I might be kicked off it.
I do. It’s an Amazon Visa by Chase. It feels fancy. It’s the same thickness as a plastic credit card. Maybe even a tad thicker. It doesn’t have sharp edges, so you can’t cut anyone with it.

This was the okay part of the keynote that interested me. Was hoping it was launched on that day.

I do. No TSA problems whatsoever. The metal does block RFID though. So my RFID building pass and RFID subway card don't work through it. In other words, if the metal card is in the outermost card on my wallet, then I can't just tap my wallet to use the RFID cards in it. For that reason, I asked Chase to just send me a normal plastic card instead.

Okay I have a question.... so I have a balance to pay. I choose to pay the entire balance. How do I do that? Check, another credit card? Just how do I pay my card balance month to month?
You pay it with Apple Pay Cash by debiting your checking account.

Apple innovation:
  • making ipads & iphones a bit thinner,
  • removing all ports,
  • soldering all parts on computers,
  • creating tv shows
  • and credit cards...

and still, no time to finish the dammed mac pro... why why why!?!?

Funny seeing so many people get frothed up into a frenzy about Apple, one of the largest vendors of consumer retail products, introducing their own credit card. OMG, a credit card, how dare they when its now 2019 and no MacPro!

I wonder if they get as wound up about Target, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Macy's, Crate and Barrel, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Walmart, Safeway, and on and on and on having their own credit cards?

Credit Cards can be EVIL and should never used to "Borrow" money. They should be used ONLY as a convenience and paid off monthly.
And to use without having to carry a lot of cash for large purchase. Criminals would just love to rob someone and fortunate to target that person who happens to have large sum of cash

Apple has designed an incredibly thin titanium… credit card. :D:confused:o_O This is like something I'd come up with!

I can't wait to sharpen my Apple Card down so it'll be multifunctional.

That could get you into a lawsuit if you hand the card over for a purchase and someone cuts off their finger. ;)

In addition, metal cards are very much as USA/Canada thing. Europe not so much. Amex in the UK don't offer any cards in metal despite the sky-high ownership fees. I would not be surprised to see this launch in the UK as a plastic version. Hope I'm wrong as it will probably force Amex to up its game.

As someone who’s had to process plenty of transactions with metal cards: they’re a pain in the ass, they don’t swipe very well and will break credit card swipers. And no matter how much like to pretend their tech bubble where everyone takes contactless payments is normal, it really isn’t and not only are there plenty of places that don’t do contactless payments even if they’re supposed to, there’s still plenty of places that don’t even have chip readers and still rely on old fashioned swiping or manual entry.

Apple is rapidly turning into Sears. On the Gartner Magic Quadrant, they're moving away from "Ability to Execute" warp speed.

Yep, and when your car needs new tires or a new battery or you need to replace a pipe or a refrigerator or some other unexpected purchase you should just walk to work or not have running water or store refrigerated food because of course if you don’t have cash then you should buy it.

Meh on this card. I already use a combination of a Citi 2%, Amazon Prime, and a Chase sapphire reserve which serve me well. Nice looking metal card, though.

I really like the idea but I don't quite understand the way it works. Is it linked to a pre-existing bank account, or does Apple store your money for you? Like... can you use the Apple card like any regular bank account, where you transfer money into it or get paid into it by your employer and store it there? Because if not, then what's the point? You're paying your banks stupid fees anyway so having an Apple card won't really give you any benefit. And your bank already gives you a card so unless Apple Card replaced your current bank account entirely, what's the point?

Also, the card being titanium, does it work with PayPass/Contactless? Because that's kind of a basic requirement nowadays.
It's basically a Goldman Sachs Credit Card. Just with a Apple spin. It's just a rewards card that Apple give you better rewards for using Apple Pay.

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... 13-24% APR.

By crazy ones I think you mean the 85% or whatever % of Americans who do not pay off their credit card balance in full every month and instead choose to pay loan shark interest just to keep up with the joneses.

Warm hint - Pay off your credit card in full every month by the due date always and you’ll never even care about the interest rate!

What a farce all these cards are when you think about it. Thanks dad for teaching me right when I was young to never ever ride interest on a credit card.

[doublepost=1553729708][/doublepost]
And the average APR of this card is 18.74%. Don't be fooled by Apples spin.

Fooled? Ha ha!

I love it when financial genius’s talk about riding interest of 17% versus 18% on their credit card balance. It’s really laughable.

Obviously most people are Not realizing this but if you’re paying anything over 10% on a credit card, riding interest on credit card debt you should just visit your bank and get a proper bank loan to consolidate your debt down to a reasonable rate - interest rates are very low. Pay that loan down, and use the card, but pay the balance monthly and enjoy!

Yeah, the rates are insane but since I pay my cards off every month it probably doesn't matter. Still, I don't like it, it's pretty clear they're trying to trap people into a vortex of debt they can't escape. Sure, I know theoretically you can avoid the rates, but things happen in life. What if someone close to you dies and you're dealing with that and forget about paying the monthly bill for the $6,000 Mac Pro you just put on the card and a couple payment periods pass by? You're going to be in for a hell of a shock once you get around to paying the bill.

The thing I find a bit misleading about Apple Pay's privacy is that many vendors require you to provide name/address data when checking out with Apple Pay in apps (even when there's no shipping involved). Kind of defeats the purpose of no tracking when you have to provide your info anyway. That's not Apple's fault, it's the merchants still trying to get their hands on data, but Apple could take app store review processes to reject apps that require additional data with Apple Pay when not relevant to providing the service.

In any case, I'm sure I'll try the card. It probably won't become my go to card for most purchases but it doesn't have any fees so no harm in trying its feature set.

Tell them "no" if it bugs you. Most retailers would rather make the sale than collect the data. The only way to be heard is to speak up.

You DO have to be willing to walk away from the purchase though.

Still, it isn't too unlike using Apple over Windows or Android for privacy concerns.

Also, the card being titanium, does it work with PayPass/Contactless? Because that's kind of a basic requirement nowadays.

Don't see why not, after all, AMEX uses titanium for their Centurion card and stainless steel for their Platinum card and both have had contactless payments for years.

Now if Apple only bought Amazon so that I can get 3% off almost everything I buy, including groceries.

There's always ebates.com, they give around 3% off most things at amazon.com

Some day we will say, “Remember when the word apple meant something other than a fruit?”

Well, at least there's Apple Records.

Anyway, I don't think Apple is in any danger of failing, just a major contraction and restructuring. They have a ton of cash in the bank, but the stock repurchase program and dividend are going to hurt them badly. Another gift from Timmy.

So it's pretty much just like the rest in terms of APR, does that somehow make it horrible? Seems like at most it just makes it no better in that respect, but that's about it.

Maybe you missed the two minutes Apple devoted to condemning high interest rates and promising to eliminate them. Apple lied.

No interest financing on major appliances.
Financing for tires through Affirm.

If you know you won't be able to pay it back within a month, there are almost always financing options available that have better loan terms than a regular credit card. Most credit unions also offer personal loans to their customers. For home improvement stuff it's pretty common to use a home equity loan (and if you rent, then buying new appliances isn't your problem).

Heck, even applying for a specialty credit card (e.g., a Goodyear Tires credit card to get 0% on their tires) is better than using a cash-back credit card such as this Apple one.
