One of those, it’s a big deal when it happens to me. No big deal when it happens to you events. Happened to me, SOB. 😀

Weird. Paid it off this morning (all-white card), used it 3x today with no issues. I hope it gets fixed for those affected soon.

I think its entirely random. Not affected on iOS 16 here.
I used it via ApplePay around 730 this morning & again around noon without issue.
It’s the only physical card I carry (unless I’m traveling) and my grocery store doesn’t take contactless payments.
I'm another one who will occasionally use the physical card out in the wild ... and my grocery store also does not do contactless payments (but they're more than happy to push their own debit card on you).

I carry my physical card, but I cannot remember the last time I've used it. So, thinking about it, I'm not sure why I carry it. I have an Amazon Prime, Sapphire Preferred and Freedom Unlimited to cover all my cash back needs. Apple Card is strictly for ApplePay and Apple Store purchases. (Even though Discover is 5% on ApplePay this quarter).

Yesterday, I updated my iPhone to iOS 16.0.3, and my watch to watchOS 9.0.2

This morning, around 8am eastern, I noticed a notification on my iPhone saying that my default card in Wallet had changed to another (non-Apple Card) card.

I then noticed that it said my Apple Card was “unavailable”

My watch and iPad still seemed to show that the Apple Card was OK, but the only option for the iPhone was to “Remove card” and add it again.

I was afraid of removing the card (since it said all transactions would be deleted, and I was afraid that it would also remove it on ALL devices), but (after talking to Support) I ended up doing that on my iPhone (it only deleted on iPhone), then re-adding it, and all seems OK.

No idea if it was related to the iOS 16.0.3 update, or just coincidentally timed to when I did the update. It only seemed to affect my iPhone.

When I checked Apple “system status” this morning (while I was having the problem), it showed “ok” for “Apple Card”.

This happened a week or so ago, thought it was perhaps caused by my recent upgrade to a new phone. I removed the card and added it back again - problem fixed. Now I need to do it again ....... Also didn't work for me today again. ..... Using it on my Apple Watch.

My problem isn't the Apple Card but my Bank Card. I've deleted and added the card but it keeps failing. Called bank and they tell me it's posting the wrong expiration date. Started with iOS 16. o_O
Having similar problem with a bank card since migrating to 14 Pro Max on 9/27. I upgraded from 12 Pro Max which had the same card in the wallet. I’ve spent hours on phone with bank and Apple and issue still not resolved.🤯. Has you found solution yet?

Nope, their banking app also has issues as well with iOS 16 so I figure when they update the app I'll try again.

People still use their Apple Card? I don’t even use it for Apple store purchases, prefer to use my Chase which gives me points plus extended warranty.

If your Apple Card has suddenly stopped working, you are not alone. Apple's system status page indicates there is an issue that has resulted in some Apple Card users receiving a "this card cannot be used" error in the Wallet app since early Tuesday.

Apple says affected users should tap the "Remove Card" option and then re-add the Apple Card to the Wallet app by tapping the plus sign in the top-right corner, choosing Previous Cards, and following the on-screen instructions. Apple says transaction history will reappear after the card is re-added, suggesting this an annoying but harmless glitch.

It's unclear how widespread the issue is or if only certain iOS versions are affected. Apple did not share any additional details.

Launched in 2019, the Apple Card remains exclusive to the United States. Apple's credit card can be managed completely through the Wallet app on the iPhone, with a physical version available for use at stores that do not accept contactless payments.

We'll update this story when the issue is marked as resolved.

Same I wonder how many non apple wallet savy people will know how to fix before they give up completely
Happened to me yesterday morning and I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I’m on vacation in Paris and my Apple Card via Apple Pay stopped working from one day to the next. I tried to use it to call up an Uber and it kept failing repeatedly; switching to another bank card worked, so I determined the problem was with the Apple Card and not Apple Pay. I was able to successfully use the physical card later, so the problem was the combination of the card with Apple Pay. Thanks to this forum, I was able to resolve the problem very easily by deleting/re-adding.

Happened to me today, on iOS 15.7. I haven’t checked my older devices with iOS 12 and iOS 14 yet to see if they’re affected.

I thought Apple had revoked my card or detected a security breach. The former was unlikely because I always pay the bill in full and got the (highest?) limit available. The latter seemed more likely but didn’t see any emails from them.

Although Apple didn't provide detail on how many users this affects, things like this are why I closed my Apple Card. I need financial products that put finances before a clean interface. What good does a pretty UI do for you if you can't access your money.
