I thought savings accounts were obsolete.
Traditional savings accounts are. High yield ones also were useless. But now they are making a come back except that they pay less than US treasuries which in turn pay less than the inflation rate. So all of this makes no sense but that’s what happens during periods of financial repression.

Save money by spending money, brilliant!
This.

Hey kids-- increase your savings account balance by buying more stuff with your Apple Card! The pennies on the dollar we kick back can go into a savings account and earn pennies on those dollars.

To earn dollars in "high yield" interest, you'll need to spend thousands of dollars on the card.

Cashback schemes should be banned. The only thing I use mine for is to pay down the card balance.

the email I received also contained this:

Your APR has changed

The Prime Rate has increased and as a result, the variable interest rate on Apple Card has increased.

Irrelevant because from my reading everyone on MacRumors are independently wealthy original Apple shareholders who pay their statements in full every month.

The savings account has not been present in any iOS 16.2 betas, so it's unclear when it will become available, but Goldman Sachs evidently continues to lay the groundwork for the feature's launch.

It might still come with iOS 16.2. As with other Apple Pay features before, don’t expect to see Apple Pay later or the new savings account on the developer or public betas before they’re officially released. Apple never allows developer or public beta testing of Apple Pay related features. Examples of this were Apple Cash, Apple Card, Apple Pay on the web or even Apple Pay itself. None of them showed up at all in the betas for the iOS versions where each of those features came. They only showed up in the respective final versions, and sometimes not even on release day, but rather a few days later.

This is smart on Apple’s part. People never spend that daily cash, Apple gets a higher percentage yield on that money than they pay out. Rather than people cashing it in immediately toward their credit card balance.

Is Apple Card coming to Europe anytime?

When will Apple succeed in breaking the ban from EU banks?
Many are eagerly waiting (don't worry guys, we know what and why we want it).

I didn't get an email about my APR.

I'm not a shareholder, but I do pay all my CCs (I use three) in full, twice a month; the 1st and the 15th. I have no idea what the APR of my card is, and don't care, because I'll never carry a balance.

As for the savings account, they are good to have when you want to keep your emergency fund easy to access, regardless of the rate.

Is this rolling out to all iCards or something that will only be featured on the premium iCard Pro tier?

it would be nice if there was an option to add funds from a debit card in the wallet app
Maybe, I’m thinking of something different but I add money to my Apple cash balance all the time. I just click add money and choose my debit card. Are you requesting something different?

But will it be useful, like posting direct deposits early, integrating with Zelle for instant transfers, etc

Have you actually done this other than through a mutual fund or money market instrument? ...

Your statement is so generalized that its value is questionable. Every individual's situation and constraints are different. There is no "one size fits all" with this which is why professional advice is important.
Good response. I'd also point out that the other person recommended opening a brokerage account and investing in T-bills if you have as little to invest as $1,000; getting you a whopping $10 per year extra interest, at best. That's nutso.

Actually, that image ought to say ‘exclusively for americans’ because it’s not just Europe being excluded, it’s the whole world: the card isn’t available anywhere but the USA.

There’s no premium Apple Card tier yet 🤣. The savings account will be available to everyone who has an Apple Card.
