Written with authority, but not necessarily true. I just did a chat with Apple Card and they gave the extra 3% on the iPhone I bought this Sunday. Others may get different results.

I don't see why they wouldn't make up the difference. There is nothing stopping someone from returning and rebuying if they are still within the return policy period.

Paying off your balance early? No. Is there any card that does that?
kinda yes. Not necessarily the CC itself, but some 0% financing plans do have a penalty for paying off early. I guess their thought on it is, if you miss a payment, you incur all the back finance charges.

Apple's fine print says:
Purchases from Apple Media Services and AppleCare+ monthly payments, as well as any Apple iPhone Payments or Apple iPhone Upgrade Program charges posted to your account outside of the promotional period, are ineligible.
So, doesn't that mean this part in the article is wrong?:
...excludes purchases made on iTunes, AppleCare+, and payments made to Apple's ‌iPhone‌ Upgrade Program.

Update: After speaking with the manager on txt, and calling 2 times, the txt message people replied back in the middle of phone convo to tell me they will add extra 3%, no need to return and said the extra money will be added in few days.... so defiantly ymmv

I tried with Webchat, a text with Apple Card support and a call with Apple and now luck. Now wondering if it is worth the hassle to return my new MacBook to save and additional $60

I want to sign up for Apple card but rewards from other cards are way better

Why should this mentality hold you back? Lol. If you want the Apple Card just get it. Depending on your credit report of course. Of course there are cards with better rewards, but Apple’s offering is very good and is unique.

I just feel like people hold back on things that are totally within reason. If it’s not gonna kill you, hurt your credit etc then just do what makes you happy. (Within reason)

If you chat in you might be able to get the extra 3% but Apple's not going to retrospectively go back and apply the deal to all purchases from Apple Card owners.
they won't. they will just dump you over to GS.

Thanks for the tip. Just did the same for a purchase I made on the 7th.

I also contacted both GS Apple Card and Apple itself. Neither could do anything. Apple actually said to return and re-purchase. In my case, the item is a custom MacBook Pro 16 with upgraded CPU, RAM, and SSD, so the extra Apple Cash is over $100.

I suspect that Apple will see a significant spike in returns today. Maybe they will learn to issue such offers at the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, or at least have the ability to add the extra cash back for purchases that are still in the return window.

Yeah same boat I'm in - the extra 3% is a pretty decent amount. You would think it would cost them more to process the return and sell that as an openbox / refurb... but I guess they're banking on people not wanting to go through the hassle of returning and repurchasing.

I believe that the discount on Apple's refurb items is in the range of 10-20%. So the refurb discount alone is far more that the extra 3% Apple Cash at issue. Then add in the cost of the original shipping, return shipping, and factory refurb (clean, test, reload, repackage), and this is a non-trivial cost. I am sure that Apple is still making a profit - just not nearly as much as it could have been. I commented to the support person that returning and repurchasing is a nuisance for me and a non-trivial cost to Apple but they didn't have any alternative.

Hopefully Apple handles this better next year. This year they had Black Friday sales, then a week later they added the extended return period, and then a week later they added the extra 3% Apple Cash. All of this should have happened at the same time. Doing it in stages penalizes the early shoppers and invites return/reorder churn.

Damn. A few weeks late. Oh well, I guess I’ll make due with buying another phone case for my Pro Max, and a new band for my watch.

Great deal for low sales-tax states like Oregon and New Hampshire.
For high sales-tax states like California or New York, paying at B&H
with their store card yields a higher rebate than 6%, like 8.5% for
my zip code. The catch? Pay your credit card (be it Apple or other)
in full right after purchase.

geez, debating returning my 16" mbp, getting this card, and effectively getting a free spec upgrade...

I bought my wife a new a MacBook Air last week.

Guess I could return it and re-buy. Pfffft. Too much trouble.

I guess that would depend on the particular store card. Didn't realize some are going well above the typical 5% or so that various store cards offer. But that's still somewhat different than a general credit card.

Which other ones are way better, out of curiosity?
