Is this available already? I bought an iPhone a few days ago and wasn’t offered this option.

Where do you see anything that says you can't finance an unlocked phone?

saw it on the Reddit...

They were mistaken. I just did it. Remember, this program is new, so it's likely many Apple employees are not yet familiar with all the terms.
Did you got your for with installment payments, with a prepaid plan? or just a regular plan?

well i went ahead and purchased a SIM free XR so guess i will find out in a couple of weeks if it's true.
i was already planning on ordering the phone so if it doesnt work i'll just pay it off at the end of Jan

Like someone already said, you only made the purchase under the assumption you're paying a 24 month plan based on what someone told you. There is nothing in writing that says sim-free phones are included. We've yet to get any proof from you that the payment plan went through other than your insistence.

By your logic, the person you spoke to may be misinformed as well since the program is new.

So, when you go through the process of selecting the phone on the website. you have the option of Sim-Free and the installment payments disappear.

If you select a carrier (ATT the one I choose) then it asks for the phone number and your last 4 digits of your SSN.
I have tried with close friends data and what I got is:
with a prepaid plan it didn't work, it says you you have to upgrade your plan
with a regular plan, it works and allows you to continue.

So, bad news for me, I was expecting to get it on a unlock free plan, or at least on a prepaid one.
